Just a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Lee, Kirk & the ESPN gang gave a little love to the MAC last night. They gave some kudos to Chryst for his work with the bowls and basically said it was about time that the MAC got more than two bowl bids.

Genuine?

Who knows, but it was good to hear someone actually say it!

we have to PRAY that the MAC bowls this year have decent attendance and that the MAC performs well against our opponents. We have some damage control to take care of considering our poor OOC performance. The Conference has a great opportunity to gain back some prestige from last year's coming out party. Let's get it done!

It was nice they didn't bother to mention that the MAC got these bowls because there were no other teams left in 1A to fill the gaps. But again, this is about perception. It is better that people simply see MAC teams in the games. The reality will follow later. Marshall and Akron should be staying home this year. I don't mind them going under the circumstances.

Motown:

You are correct, my friend.

Here's the scenario. The MAC has been griping for years about being slighted for bowl bids. A number of things have fallen into place (flukes?) to give the conference what they've been asking for.

So Bowling Green, Northern, Toledo, Marshall, Miami and, possibly, Akron will go to bowls this year. MAC supporters see this as vindication, proof that our conference is getting the respect it deserves.

But MAC bashers don't see it that way. They see it ...

1) As a chance to see the MAC exposed as being unable to match the level of play of "real" bowl-eligible teams.

2) A fluke

3) A chance for us to be outclassed by programs with more tradition, programs able to pack the stands at "faraway" bowls and get eyeballs to the TV sets.

The MAC wanted the opportunity to prove itself. It has that chance. What the teams (and their collective fan base) do with it could go a long way toward determining the MAC's bowl future.

NWLB:

I think most folks realize that the MAC is the benefactor of a lot of luck this year, but you're right that the more important thing is that people are seeing MAC schools in bowls.

As mentioned elsewhere, all the free pub helps the schools and the conference. A good record in these bowls, as well as respectable turnouts will really help moving forward.

that is why EVERYONE, needs to make every effort possible to get to Mobile for this Bowl Game.

It could well spell the difference between future invitations or Bowl folks looking the other way.

I encourage anyone not going, to see if there is ANY WAY, you can take the time, money and attend !!!

We've all complained about BG and the MAC, not getting Bowls, and now we have a Orange opportunity to support and continue the trend for all future teams, fans, and coaches.

Everyone wants to increase attendance, well, get to this game, bring some friends and get more people on the BG Bandwagon; who will buy tickets and attend future Falcon games.

Look at how the Bowls go after Marshall, why? They bring a competitive team and lots of FANS. They support - strongly. We've got a Great Team, now let's get all of the Great Fans out with them.

Don't sit at home, buy a ticket and come on down (if there is any way to make it happen !!) and make it a great time for EVERYONE.

We all need to support and here is your opportunity. Let us help to carry this program forward in the great tradition of Bowling Green.

I hope to see you in 'Bama, wearing you ORANGE

Yeah, we have 5 or 6 teams going to bowls, and I'm personally pulling for 5 to 6 convincing wins. As much as I despise TU, Marshall and Miami (I can respect the latter...), I want to see them win and win big in order to prove the viability of the MAC on a national level. I would love to see NIU win just so they can win something and quit bitching (and I do kinda feel bad for them) and if Akron could go and win -- I think there would be a lot of people spinning in their graves -- that would be proof beyond a doubt that the MAC is a major player in the nation.

Now, if we could just do something about those pesky directional Michigan schools, we might really have something here!

Falcon Commander, I didn't read your post it hurt my eyes. Was it important? If so I'd love to read it if you'd be kind enough to post just a little more quietly.

How about when Corso was talking about Scooter McD and said "This guy was a TOP running back in the state of Ohio. He had grade problems though, which is probably why he ended up at Toledo."

Talk about a back-handed compliment (if it was even a compliment at all...)

Grant:

The truth can be painful to hear.

So far, I like the chances of the MAC schools...

BG has a fight on its hands with Memphis, but its definitely a winnable game.

Bancroft Correction Center should be able to dispatch the UConn Cornelius Huskies.

No way Marshall loses to Sin-Sin-Ratty.

NIU fans seemed convinced that they'll end up in San Jose against Troy ... edge to the Huskies, who have something to prove after getting the bowl shaft last year.

Miami in the Independence? All depends which team shows up!

I did notice that Grant and I was laughing my butt off.

But did anyone notice the egregious display of man-love Corso was showing last night for "Toledo Tom?" I found it amazing. It was like they had gone to high school together or something.

Anyhow, I have to admit that I am getting a bit concerned about Tom Amstutz the person (and no, I do not mean this to be mean at all). His weight does seem to be ballooning lately, and that is not good for his health at all. He could end up diabetic or worse. I really am starting to feel guilty for making fun of the man's weight because he seems to have a serious problem. I actually felt kind of bad for him when Kirk said at the end of the game last night: "I'd like to see these guys carry him off the field!" I really hope that he can turn things around (I just hope he does it while coaching another school!)

He does seem like the kind of guy you'd want to work for. As far as Scooter's grades, they're probably up there with Claretts and Ricky Williams. Darn Good backs from pretty good schools.

On a serious note. I have no problem with BGSU pride in academics. I'll admit that your low percentage of commuters and high percentage of full timers gives you get a better cross section.

Just don't mistake yourselves for Michigan, Duke or Miami U. BG, is a nice school with good people.

Bancroft High has a Pharmacy School and Law School. I doubt if half the clowns in either student section, yours or ours qualify.

Beat C-USA wannabes.
