I just heard on ESPN radio Colin Cowherd that Urban Meyer has accepted a position at Florida and will announce it later today

Those rumors are being disputed by people at Florida.

I think the rumor mill is running in overdrive right now.

Sounds like a done deal to me

The University of Florida has offered its coaching job to Urban Meyer, who accepted today, ESPN.com's Pat Forde has learned.


Florida papers reported the offer to Meyer, who has coached Utah to a 12-0 season and a BCS bowl bid, on their Web sites Friday morning.


"It could be any minute," UF president Dr. Bernie Machen told The Palm Beach Post earlier today. "I'm waiting for an e-mail."

I heard Dan Patrick on ESPN a while ago and they were talking about how ND got rid of Tyrone Willingham so they could go after Urban Meyer ... and he wondered if they put all their eggs in one basket, only to be disappointed if Urban takes the Florida job. I just picked this up from the Gainesville newspaper. It's not a done deal yet, but UF athletic officials really want Meyer and are going after him hard.

I suppose Meyer going to Florida makes sense in some respects. He always has been the pure proffesional coach. He is about winning and advancing. Florida is best place to do that right away. ND has a lot of issues to deal with, its very fan base included.

I'd still have to think ND "fits" him better, but then that might not really be what motivates him.

I suppose we'll know by today in any case. If we see ND talking to others, then we will know.

Chris Leak is a prototypical Urban offensive weapon. The closet is near fully stocked with talent and the remnents of the Fun and Gun will allow Urban quicker success at Florida than if he took the Irish position.

I think it is too bad if Meyer does decide to go to Florida. I like the Irish. I think Urban could have relly put that team on the top of the heap again. I sure do hope that the reason he decided, if true, to go to Florida was not because ND refused to lower the academic standards for him. I always thought Urban was a pretty classy guy in that respect. And you would think that him being a Catholic would add extra incentive for him wanting to go to ND...But then again, it probably came down the Mrs. Urban Meyer wanting to work on her tan.

I guess the best options on the board for ND would be Butch Davis, Cal's Jeff Tedford, USC Offensive Coordinator Norm Chow, Boise State's Dan Hawkins or my personal darkhorse, San Francisco 49er's head coach Dennis Erickson. Erickson has won big in college but he's been something of a disaster in the NFL (like butchie).

Not according to Trev. I remember him saying a couple of weeks ago that he doesn't see Leak fitting in to Meyer's offense. I think Alberts is loco. :coo-coo:

There are about $1.5 million additional reasons he is going to Florida over Notre Dame. You folks still believe all of that sappy dialog he puts out about family, dream jobs, mountains etc. He can tell you what you want to hear...........but you can't listen because it is all BS.
Urban is ALL about Urban and that is about winning and $$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!
