Three players are out

From Saturday's Blade:

Matt Leininger has been suspended indefinitely. On Aug 4 he was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated and an underage alcohol offense. Pretrial hearing is on Sep 17. "We'll evaluate that suspension following the SEMO game and see where were at" Brandon said.

Freshman Lance Latkiewicz's career is over before it began as it has been detected that he has a heart condition that will force him to stop playing football. That is truly a sad story.

Andy Grubb has yet to practice. "... he's got a disc problem that needs to settle down. He had that last year after OSU, but we don't know (how long he will be out)", Brandon said

I'm sorry to hear that Lance will not be playing for us but I am very thankful that this problem was detected before it became a larger issue like Steve Navarro's stroke or the tragic death of Hank Gaithers.

Flipper!

What are you doing parading *that* thing around?

Some things are best left undiscussed. Marshall fans don't discuss Boogercats. I'm not sure we ought to be talking about that monstrosity.

WHAAAAATTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crap!!!! :x Great just great! Leineger is our only big d-linmen we have left that has had any significant playing time. This is horrible! Come on Matt!! We don't need this. We've already have issues with our d-line's size and strength. After Thaler who do we have?   Stuff like this makes me want to :vom: What are these players thinking!! Gosh, is alchohal more important to you than playing against freakin' Oklahoma ,one of the biggest games of your career????!! :o This stuff just kills me!!!! If you haven't noticed,I'm very mad. :(

Ever heard of Mitchell Crossley or Devon Parks? We still have size up there, do not worry. Yeah this hurts to see because we still need all the size we have going up against Oklahoma but I still think they will be alright.

I was disorderly a time or two (a week) at that age, too, so its hard to be too judgmental.

What about Parks & Crossley??

First of all Devon is still pretty small for DE in my humble opinon if he indeed is still only 233lbs. Yes Crossley is 6'3 and 250 ,thats decent size for a D1. DE. But I'm talking about the DT's . What are we going to there?? Thats always been our problem. If Leigieger is not in the lineup for Oklahoma, then I'm afraid any paper thin chance we imagined we might have to win is completly gone. Oklahoma will pound us to smithereens, no question. Our offense just isnt' that strong enough to overcome major losses on the defensive side anywhere. Ive never felt so uneasy about this season untill now. Our depth at D-line is just not good enough yet. Andy Grubbs loss doesnt' frighten me as much at knowing we got the one of more of the fab five to step in , assuming their good enough.

I'm not into chicken little type stuff, but I gotta agree with Falconboy. Our DL is dangerously thin, especially the DT position. We have never been even close to big up front, but losing Leininger is a MAJOR MAJOR blow to what we did have.

That said, I cannot judge, I have plenty of stupid stuff in my past to say anything. They're still college kids, and I cannot blame them for having fun.

Leineger underage??

Was Leinager caught being underage with alcohol, or is he at least 21? Who do we have left at DT anyway?? Is what Matt did bad enough to bench him for any major length of time like say a felony , stuff like that? Whe're walking a thin line guys. :(

Same here.

I am tempted to say Brandon may have overreacted a bit, based on my own college experience.

:partyman: :drinkers: :butthead:

We're talking about what appears to be a minor misdemeanor.

But, obviously, I don't know the facts of the situation at all.

Disorderly conduct is a funny thing. It covers a mind-boggling array of situations. It appears Matt Leininger was charged with ORC 2917.11(B). Quoting:

(B) No person, while voluntarily intoxicated, shall do either of the following:

(1) In a public place or in the presence of two or more persons, engage in conduct likely to be offensive or to cause inconvenience, annoyance, or alarm to persons of ordinary sensibilities, which conduct the offender, if the offender were not intoxicated, should know is likely to have that effect on others;

(2) Engage in conduct or create a condition that presents a risk of physical harm to the offender or another, or to the property of another.

Regardless, Leininger is a big, big loss. This can't help us against Oklahoma game. :(

Monty Cooley

My guess is Cooley will be playing for Matt. Monty is just as big if not bigger than Matt. I just think back to the NIU game, Monty had a hell of a game that day.

Schad my friend, you haven't seen anything yet. I'm fixing to get my scanner fired up. When I do I intend to post images of late 1970's BGSU athletics that will shock and disgust the participants of this forum.

I will not rule out the appearance of Denny Stoltz AND his staff in white belts and shoes

First off....I'm very sad about Lance Latkiewicz....that is a total shame but it's good they found that out. Football is still just a game and this young man still has his life ahead of him. Hope to meet him at a game this year.

Grubb? He did have major problems last year with his back...I don't know, man....With back injuries you really have to be careful. Sounds like another "Block of Granite" could be up next  I hope Andy gets this under control. He's a Sr and has always worked hard and EARNED his PT..

Leininger....I can't get on his case. I did so many stupid things after drinking. I've been busted on everything to Disorderly conduct to DUI. Matt is young & on a great football team. Unfortunately, he is a leader on this team and made a mistake. I feel badly for him cuz I know how much he means to the team and vice versa. I sat behind him at the MAC softball tourney at Firestone Stadium and you could tell he LOVES being a Falcon.
Did Brandon go too far? Hard to say....I don't know what the team rules are and how things are done. Is Brandon sending a message like "If we are going to win the MAC, we must keep our noses clean and to the grindstone"? It sux for Matt. If he broke the team rules, he must face the consequences. Too many programs let stuff slide and tarnishes the game.
But man does that bite.

Monty Cooley is more than a capable backup. He reminds me of TJ Carswell...another kid from GA that is a solid player but had too many talented, more seasoned guys ahead of him. Now he gets his chance. Cooley is a player. And what about Brad Williams?? This guy played some solid ball last yr. And he's as strong as an ox. Ryan Newble did some good things last yr.

OK is not gonna define our season anyway...winning that MAC Title is the goal...and this team is still strong enough to win the title. We are building a solid program with depth and experience. Now, we're gonna get a chance to see how far we've come in that department. The sign of a solid program is how do you do when a few players can't play....do you have the depth to have guys step in and get the job done anyway?

They're are gonna be obstacles everywhere this year...defending a title of any kind is never easy. The Falcons are still a heck of a team....it starts in less than 21 days...and I know BG is gonna win the West. And then the MACC.

GO FALCONS!!!!

Flip, the kids today would think Denny is one groovy dude. His threads would rule! I liked Denny as a coach...even thought the whole SDSU job announcement was horrible timing, he produced solid, title winning and contending teams after he got his system in place.

On another note....what has happened to Jamal Bryant? This guy had the makings of big things and yet he's all but disappeared! Ayone know?
