BGSUFALCONS.COM now a paid site?????

I will be watching the game on ESPN3, however, I went to the BGSUFALCONS.COM site and wanted to listen to the pregame show. It is now a paid site????? You have to pay $4.95 to listen to the audio broadcast. I am sorry but NO ONE is going to pay for that when they can go to the radio stations websites and listen to the feed for free.... I am pretty sure 106.5 the ticket has a live streaming section. BG dropped the ball on this. No way should they charge to listen to a radio broadcast, especially a road contest. To me all this will do is make people lose interest in Falcons athletics. I am very disappointed in one of my favorite players of all times, Cal Bowers. It looks like he is the driving resource behind this paying option.

Guess you missed Cal's post earlier this week discussing the subject.
It pained Cal to do it but overall I think it is a sign of the times and it is very fairly priced.
Also, when broadcasts are pay like this generally the radio channel websites disable their streaming feature so I'd highly doubt you could log on and listen via The Ticket's stream.
$24.95 for all the football games, pre games, etc. is very reasonable and heck $49.95 for ALL sports (football, hockey, and men's and women's hoops) is a good as well.

I did miss Cal's post. I can understand it for home games but away games you should not be forced to pay. People living within the radio broadcast don't need to pay to listen to the games on any of its radio channels. I could care less because I will watch the game on ESPN3 but I was just trying to help out others.
And there is a radio channel broadcasting their audio feed online. But I am not going to mention the channel as I don't want Cal or someone else get word and have them block it out for the Tulsa game.

Not a huge fan of paying but what are you going to do? It was either not pay and not listen to the games (football, hockey and basketball) or pay a reasonable price and listen to the games. I take the latter.

BUT IF YOU LIVE IN BG OR TOLEDO SIMPLY TURN ON THE RADIO, TUNE TO 99.1FM or 106.FM and listen to it for free and without the 7 second delay!!! That is my point, people within the radio market can listen on the radio. If you are going to force people to pay then simply cut off the broadcasts on the radio. And I will tell you there is one radio station out of nine that is streaming the live audio right now.

gmartin - cal here. I can feel your frustration. as dayon said - was the only way for us to continue broadcasting via the web. there is a pretty significant cost to carry the broadcasts over the web - including hockey / men's bball / women's bball. for FSP/Learfield to continue the partnership with Stretch over the web - this was the only route.
we researched the mac and other mid-major schools and 95% of them are on a similar model. I feel we priced it very efficiently for our fans with the all access the best route to get every falcon broadcast around .49cents per listen.
you can give me a call next week to chat if you want - you know I am focused on bringing the best for Falcon athletics and the web is a great tool, but this was the only way for us to continue to bring over the web. I appreciate your passion for BGSU - it's what makes our alma mater a special place and I am focused on continuing that passion.

As I said, I personally understand and do not have an issue; however, I can load 11 radio stations from Troy that have FREE internet broadcasting. And there is ONE station within the BGRSO that is broadcasting its live feed. So what I am doing?? I am on their website listening to the BG Radio feed listening to Todd Walker now interview Coach Clawson. They are even playing all the BG commercials. I know times are hard right now and people are going to find the loopholes or go to the other teams broadcast. I am an out of town Falcon Club member and nothing will change my mind on how I look at BGSU but I personally think this is a BAD idea!!!! You want to increase awareness and charging for an interet radio broadcast is NOT the idea. I work with marketing myself for the Indianapolis Colts and I know times are tough and we had to be creative down here as well. I wish you all the luck. I know this was a tough decision but I strongly believe their are other options.

Last we checked, the live radio feed was way off from the video feed. The audio feed from the live radio....was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind the game on the video feed we are watching!! WTF????

ok, ok...sorry already. I thought I could just go to the BGSU site, and click on the game and Todd Walker would be there. I missed the whole pay thing- you'd think there would be an icon to click on to go wherever a fan needed to go to purchase the listen. Or SOMEWHERE on the site that told you, you would have to pay so you'd be ready.
Thanks to Falcon Fanatic for getting me to the Troy Video. Which was like a treasure hunt to find it. She's awesome, in case you didn't know.

I may give it a whirl. Surely I won't pay $24 for just football. If the service is good enough, I might see paying for an entire annual season. I used to be highly adverse to such things, and free options surely are out there. But as I said in the surveys and here, for a quality service, I would rather pay than deal with cable TV.
