Week 2 MAC predictions

Post by MarkL »

Sorry this is a little, late as there is a big conference game tonight. Week 1 done, here's the current totals:

LowryFalcon 12 - 1
bgsufalcon24 12 - 1
jpfalcon09 12 - 1
MarkL 11 - 2

So week 2, all 13 teams play again, including 3 conference games, 2 BCS games, 1 non-conf non-BCS game, and 4 FCS opponents. Here's the lineup:

Thursday
Cent. Michigan at Temple 7:00 pm

Friday
Gardner-Webb at Akron 12:00 pm

Saturday
East. Michigan at Miami (OH) 2:00 pm
Kent St. at Boston Coll. 3:30 pm
Bowling Green at Tulsa 7:00 pm
Nicholls St. at W. Michigan 7:00 pm
Toledo at Ohio 7:00 pm
North Dakota at Northern Illinois 7:00 pm
Liberty at Ball St. 7:00 pm
Buffalo at Baylor 7:00 pm

And here's my predictions:

Cent. Michigan at Temple
Winner: Temple. I don't really have a good grasp of how good / bad CMU is going to be this year. Don't read too much into Temple's near loss against 'Nova. 'Nova is a defending national champion for a reason.

Gardner-Webb at Akron
Winner: Akron. I sincerely hope there are no upsets to FCS teams this year. I surely hope Akron can win this one.

East. Michigan at Miami
Winner: Miami. Miami is not a good team at all. Florida just sucked last week. Miami is still better than EMU, though. If EMU loses, pencil them in for another 0-12 season.

Kent St. at Boston Coll.
Winner: Boston College. Kent can make things interesting but BC will run away with this one.

Bowling Green at Tulsa
Winner: Bowling Green. BG's offense and defense are both better than we think. A better showing at Tulsa results in a high scoring win.

Nicholls St. at W. Michigan
Winner: WMU. No doubt.

Toledo at Ohio
Winner: Ohio. Toledo's QB thinks the UT offense is among the best in the nation. Stats say otherwise. OU wins big.

North Dakota at Northern Illinois
Winner: NIU. NDSU beat KU last week, but ND is nothing close to NDSU. NIU big.

Liberty at Ball St.
Winner: Ball St. Why is BSU playing two FCS teams? They went 0-1 vs FCS last year. 2-0 vs FCS this year.

Buffalo at Baylor
Winner: Baylor. Buffalo makes this a high scoring affair, but BU's QB Griffin is not going to be stopped this year.

Have at!

Mad at myself for missing last week...lets just say I picked them all right except for the BG game!

Week 2...

CMU @ Temple - CMU is in major rebuild mode. Temple is trying to raise their stock so they can jump ship. As much as I hate them, Temple Wins.

Gardner-Webb @ Akron - The Zippers looked awful against 'Cuse. Hopefully a 1-AA opponent will cure the ills. Akron Wins.

EMU @ Miami - I just heard they don't allow ties to happen in college football anymore. Damn. The Redhawks have the home field. Miami Wins.

Kent State @ Boston College - BC Wins...'nuff said.

Bowling Green @ Tulsa - If you want my prognostication, it's in the prediction thread. Bowling Green Wins.

Nicholls State @ WMU - WMU Wins.

Toledo @ Ohio - Toledo showed me that they can't beat Arizona...but I already knew that. Their D is bad. Ohio Wins.

North Dakota @ Northern Illinois - If my memory is correct, ND is one of the better 1-AA Schools. That being said, I still like the Huskies in this one. NIU Wins.

Liberty @ Ball State - If my memory is correct, Liberty is NOT one of the better 1-AA Schools. Ball State Wins.

Buffalo @ Baylor - The magic is gone in this rust belt town. Baylor Wins.

Temple: Only cause its a home game.

Akron: G-W only has upsets in basketball.

Miami: EMU is just plain bad.

BC: Just a better team.

Tulsa: I hate traveling OOC two weeks in a row.

WMU: Nuff said.

OU: Toledo showed me nothing last week.

NIU: Don't be surprised if this goes the other way.

BSU: Next BSU will play a Pee-Wee football team.

Baylor: They have a decent team this year.

CMU @ Temple - Picking CMU since everyone else is going with Temple. Even with the losses, still think CMU is a good team and winning programs tend to not have major down years.

G-W @ Akron - Akron. Good game for the Zips to get their offense figured out.

EMU @ Miami - Miami. Both teams are bad, but Miami is coming off a game against Florida where mentally they should feel good. Dysert sucks but he'll have a solid game.

Kent State @ BC - BC. Kent might hang around a half or so, but the Eagles still have too much talent.

Nicholls State @ WMU - WMU. Any respectable MAC program should beat an FCS team.

Toledo @ Ohio - Ohio. UT's offense still struggles, but their defense will keep it somewhat close.

BGSU @ Tulsa - Tulsa. BG's defense will still have issues with Tulsa's skill level, although both teams should move the ball well.

UND @ NIU. NIU. See WMU.

Liberty @ Ball State - BSU. Cardinals should move to FCS to play these guys more often.

Buffalo @ Baylor - Baylor. A MAC program the caliber of UB can't beat a Big 12 team on the road.

I missed week 1 too! I think I won last year's didn't I? Still haven't seen that prize..... ; )

Here are my predictions:
Thursday
Cent. Michigan at Temple 7:00 pm- Temple is too tough this year. The Owls will win big.

Friday
Gardner-Webb at Akron 12:00 pm- If Akron doesn't win this game, I make a motion to immediately banish them to D-3!

Saturday
East. Michigan at Miami (OH) 2:00 pm- I think EMU will pick up the rare road win. Miami is awful, and EMU showed some flashes of mediocrity last week.
Kent St. at Boston Coll. 3:30 pm- BC is going to rough up Kent.
Bowling Green at Tulsa 7:00 pm- I really want BGSU to win, but our defense really scares me. I am picking Tulsa in a close game, unless our defense can't tackle. If thats the case, Tulsa might break 60 again....
Nicholls St. at W. Michigan 7:00 pm- Broncos by 21
Toledo at Ohio 7:00 pm- I love picking the Rockets to lose! Bobcats win easily.
North Dakota at Northern Illinois 7:00 pm- The Huskies moved the ball easily last week, but made too many mistakes. They will need to be sharper this week and will win a close game.
Liberty at Ball St. 7:00 pm- Ball St. better win or they will also be banished to D-3!
Buffalo at Baylor 7:00 pm- Baylor wins by two scores.

Well seeing that Im a little late I really cant predict the CMU Temple game and seeing the Akron game is going on I cant really do that either although I think Akron should be able to pull of a win.

Eastern Michigan @ Miami(OH) I think the redhawks will win this game. The redhawks are bad but not as bad as the eagles.

Kent State @ Boston College- ummmmmm Kent State does not have a chance in this won. Eagles victorious.

Bowling Green @ Tulsa - Once again my bias thoughts will come into play as I pick the falcons to win in a barn burner.

Nicholls St @ Western Michigan- Easy win for the Broncos.

Toledo @ Ohio- Ohio has a decent team and will beat the rockets. Maybe the rockets will actually get a taste of scoring some legitamet points against someone this year.

North Dakota @ Northern Illinois- North Dakota is a good FCS school and could beat the Huskies but I am going to go with NIU on this one.

Liberty @ Ball State- Ball State should be able to win this one easy. If not then I see them as a 1 or 2 win team this year. Ball State will win.

Buffalo @ Baylor- Although Buffalo looks decent and Baylor is the butt of the Big 12 I think being that Baylor is at home the bears will come out victorious. Although I would like to see the bulls beat them.

I kinda forgot about the Thursday game, so I guess I get a DNP for that one.

Gardner-Webb at Akron - Akron
Eastern Michigan at Miami - Miami
Kent State at Boston College - Boston College
Bowling Green at Tulsa - Tulsa
Nichols St. at Western Michigan - Western Michigan
Toledo at Ohio - Ohio
North Dakota at Northern Illinois - Northern Illinois
Liberty at Ball State - Ball State (hey Ball State, how about playing some real opponents, hmm...)
Buffalo at Baylor - Baylor

Do Akron and EMU play each other this year? Someone will have to win that one.

that may end in a zero-zero tie after 20 OT's and the winner will be decided by a pistol duel at 20 paces. Both teams better hope their QB's aren't dueling or nobody will get hit....

The loser of that game should have their football program eliminated ](*,)
