Next two opponents

Post by MarkL »

I watched Marshall vs WVU on Friday and Michigan vs ND yesterday. What did everybody else think?

As for Marshall, they were statistically owned all game but WVU made dumb mistakes that let Marshall take a big lead. Marshall played well but not great, and then all fell apart as WVU rallied from a 15 point deficit to win in OT. Marshall will either come to the Doyt pissed the hell off and totally motivated or completely dejected, like VT yesterday after losing to Boise last week. Guess which one I want.

Michigan looked great in the first half vs ND, but the secondary got exposed in the second half. They are a young secondary. If our O line can give Schilz some time, he can dice their defense to pieces, especially the long ball. I hope Kamar Jorden has a huge game. Offensively, that Denard Robinson kid is the real deal. Our defense had better wrap him up nicely or he will set yet another rushing record against us. He's scary good.

Any other observations?

Not sure I would say statistically owned early in the game. 188 of their yards came in the last five minutes of the game.

I think we will lose the next two games...probably badly. I hope I'm wrong. Realistically, if we play Marshall close and are able to move the ball effectively against Michigan, I think those will be huge moral victories for us.

Even if we don't, TSUN has proven time and time again that it is possible to get humiliated in all of your OOC games and still win the MAC.

Umm.. You were statistically owned even if it was the last 5 minutes of the game it does not matter when it happens. If you give up 30 pts in 3 minutes or 30 pts of 4 quarters it does matter. Just thought I would point out flawed logic.

I think we have a chance against Marshall if we can avoid the things that cost us against Troy & Tulsa and do the things again that had us in those games to begin with. I don't see us beating Michigan this year. Last year maybe, this year no. I just hope we get a win in the non-conference somehow.

As for Michigan, they have a depleted and weak secondary. We can throw the ball against them. However, Denard Robinson is truly amazing and will singlehandedly save Rich Rodriguez's job, which is a shame.
It will be a high scoring game, but I don't see us finding an answer for Robinson.

Just looking ahead to Marshall...this is a team we should beat at home, IMO. Minimize the mistakes at Troy and Tulsa and BG could be 2-0 right now. But I digress....

I must say, it is great to be proven wrong about the Marshall game. The team really played well tonight. The best part about this win is that there was nothing fancy about it. The team simply stayed disciplined, and waited for Marshall to defeat themselves. Funny part is, this is how teams were beating us prior to a year ago.

I really think that coach Clawson's system will eventually bring home championships. It will take a few years for things to materialize, but I really believe this the path the team is on.

My hat is off to the coaching staff and the players. Tonight was awesome!

Agreed. It was a great win tonight. Letting Marshall back into the game was a little disconcerting, but BG bounced back and finished off the Herd. I'm real curious how the Michigan game will play out...
