Radio "delay" problems

Don't know how many of you LISTEN to the game while watching it ... but I found Sat's broadcast unbelievably annoying... what I'm referring to is what seemed to be a 15-20 sec. delay between the actual play and what Todd was saying on the radio... for example, we had scored, messed up the XP, and were in the process of lining up to kickoff, when the radio announced we'd scored a TD... don't recall this happening before, as I usually have my headphones on at games... I know there's a 7sec. or so delay on TALK shows, but this was actually annoying. Hopefully, they'll get this straightened out.

I noticed a difference between radio stations. Some are behind a second or two, others are behind five seconds, and yet others are further behind.

Unless you are actually sitting at the game listening to the radio, does it really matter if there are delay problems? So you hear it happen about 15 seconds after it happens in real time. At the same time, if you are sitting at the game you have to realize that what is being broadcast is being sent all the way back to the radio station to be broadcast from their tower, where it takes time for the radio waves to make it to your antenna.
This is a non-issue being made into an issue, and a reach at that.

Here's where the issue probably lies:
- Live broadcasts are supposed to run with no delay for the very reason that those at the game can listen.
- All delays have to be killed or you're going to run into this issue.
I recommend sending your concerns to Cal Bowers at
[email protected]. He deals directly with the Radio Network.

I know that in broadcasting sports on WBGU and WFAL standard procedure is to always turn the delay off, but sometimes it's possible that the studio operator forgets to do so. I believe the standard now at WBGU and WFAL is 20 seconds of delay. A couple years ago it used to be 10 and I'm not sure why it was doubled.

Drew, not a bad idea...as to it being a "non issue" per another poster, I like to listen to Todd's broadcast as well as Gibby's comments, which many times add things to the game that we haven't seen...so a 15-20 sec. delay, which did NOT happen last year, is annoying...it's possible that I hooked into the new Toledo station...didn't really look at my headphone setting...so I'll check the next time. Since we'll be out of the state in Cal. for Meech...and Hawaii for HC, I'll not worry too much about it now.

Thought I'd made clear that I WAS at the game... and those delays were annoying...not a big issue, but didn't happen in previous years.

If I may ask, what station were you listening to the game on? I am going to take a stab and say it was on 106.5/1470 The Ticket. If you were then there definitely is a 12 second delay. The reason I know this is because when I come back into town I always listen to Norm Waner's afternoon radio show and the AM and FM feed of the same show have a 12 second delay. It really stinks when you try and be the 10th caller to win something. By the time you even attempt to dial the station they already have a winner. So were you listening to it on The Ticket. If so not sure if anything will be corrected as that's been a constant problem, even on Tiger games. The ticket Is always about one batter late when broadcasting the Tigers game off the Detroit feed.

I'd already mentioned that I didn't look to see what station I hooked into...just knew it was the BG game before it started, so couldn't figure out WHY this problem existed...never had in prior yrs.

100% agree 61!! I usually have my headphones on at the hockey games and football games (when I remember to bring them). I love listening to the game while watching it. It adds so much more to the live game experience. And
YES IT IS AN ISSUE if you like to listen to the games while
AT THE GAMES, which MANY OF US DO!! One hockey game a year or two ago was delayed by 5 seconds. It was so annoying to listen to, so after the game I called 88.1 and threw a fit (just a small one, btw!) about it. It never happend again!
Hope they stop the delays!!!
