Now the "real" season begins.....

Glad the Michigan game is over and behind us. BG went 1-3 vs all FBS teams in the non-conference schedule and probably "should" have gone 2-2, but now the real season begins. But we have to take notice of what we did so poorly vs UM and apply it to practice this week but this game is now in our rear-view mirror and doesn't mean a thing in the MAC. It would be huge if Schilz is healthy enough to play, and we must, MUST, start wrapping up on our tackles and get some sort of a running game established. Take away the Boise State & Michigan games in the last two years and they've all been a grind for us and I expect nothing less next Saturday vs Buffalo. On top of that, the last two againt UB in Perry Stadium have gone into double and triple overtime and last year's game was a one-point decision decided in the final seconds. Last time Buffalo was here, we blew a 27-7 point lead in the 4th quarter (I'm still burning up over that one) which cost us a MAC Championship berth and a bowl game. We lost our MAC opener last year at home to Ohio by 7, getting a win against UB could be a big shot in the arm for this young team and would help put this ugly outing today behind us.

Agreed 100%. UB does not have a true conference rival. I think BGSU is UB's rival in the conference after the 06, 07, 08, and 09 games were all pretty much instant classics.

A 1-0 start to MAC play would be huge. UB is very similar to BG at this point. Young offenses that are clicking at moments, defenses that have a lot of growing to do, and a 1-3 record. The big difference is that we have a second year coach and Jeff Quinn is still in his first year.

This should be a good game, and I feel it is a must-win. Start 1-0 in MAC play, and end a two game Homecoming game losing streak. Go BG!

After yesterday's performance, I can't say I'm real entusiastic towards the rest of the season. We didn't seem very prepared to me. I didn't think we'd win or even come close, but we looked totally intimidated from the opening kickoff. The only other time I saw the Falcons like that was against Tulsa 5 minutes into the bowl game. The only thing that gives me hope is the fact I think the rest of the conference is horrible too. Buffalo is a must win, but I'm still not sure we can get thru the conference with a winning record regardless.

We have not won a league title since 1992. This is the longest drought in our history. (1965-1982 previously). This is a priority, and not wins vs BCS schools.

GO FALCONS...BRING HOME THE MAC TITLE!!!!

Minus a few whiffs in trying to tackle Robinson the team looked decent at points during the first half. I don't feel the played intimidated, but we did have our second string QB in and most of our OL is out with injuries. Once we start to get healthy I feel really good about this team. I always have looked at this year as a growing year, but next year I will expect more.

Intimidated or not, this team needed to play a big team to shake the nerves for next time around. Now its time for the MAC. Lets go Falcons!!!

Bring on the MAC...we need to get the hardware at Ford Field in Dec. That's all the matters. It's an 8 game season and we have some tough road games in the MAC...Temple, CMU, tsun. We need to at least split on the road and protect our turf. Go 6-2 and we'll have a chance to play for the title.

GO FALCONS!

I really feel like our team is ten times better than they showed in AA. We are getting healthy and should be back to 100% barring any setbacks during the Buffalo game. I think we are going to trounce the Bulls and our big test will be the 16th, on the road at Temple. I hear there's going to be a watch party at Wolfey's in Elyria for that one!!!

Looking at the MAC schedule, I won't say that this first game is a must win for us, because we all know darn right well that Buffalo isn't going to go 8-0 or 7-1 in the MAC. That's the situation we faced last season, our loss to Ohio put us out of the MAC title chase after the 1st MAC game. But I will also say this, I don't see any pathway to a MAC Championship that doesn't include wins against Buffalo and Ohio. Both of these teams have failed to beat a 1-A opponent thus far, and are opponents we historically do very well against. A loss against either of those teams and we will be well behind the 8-ball at the outset.

The critical games at this point appear to be Temple and Miami, maybe Toledo as well. If BG wins those games, it's hard to imagine how we don't make it to Detroit. Ohio's not much of a threat based on their early play. Kent State is interesting, but at the end of the day I don't think they are good enough to make a run at it.
