Week 5 MAC predictions

Post by MarkL »

Up to week 4, here's the totals:

LowryFalcon 34 - 11
bgsufalcon24 34 - 11
jpfalcon09 34 - 11
MarkL 34 - 11
daspollak 23-9
VDub26Falcon 23-9
BGFalconfromCincy 23-9
falconfan1999 17-4
svillefalcon 16-6
footballguy51 15-7
Chimie 9-2

We all did pretty well last week. It's pretty predictable most of the time when the MAC plays the Big 10 these days ...

On for this week are a lot of MAC matchups. Here's the schedule:

Saturday
Ohio at East. Michigan 12:00 pm
Temple at Army 12:00 pm
Kent St. at Miami (OH) 1:00 pm
Idaho at W. Michigan 2:00 pm
Buffalo at Bowling Green 3:30 pm
Ball St. at Cent. Michigan 3:30 pm
Northern Illinois at Akron 6:00 pm
Wyoming at Toledo 7:00 pm

And my picks:

Ohio at East. Michigan
Winner: Ohio. Hard pick. Eastern has played far better than last year and I almost want to give English his first win. I just am feeling OU.

Temple at Army 12:00 pm
Winner: Temple. Both teams are pretty good. Temple won this one last year. I feel an even matchup, but I think Temple is better in close games than Army.

Kent St. at Miami (OH) 1:00 pm
Winner: Kent. Kent is way better than their record says. Miami is up and down. I think Kent's D gets it done.

Idaho at W. Michigan 2:00 pm
Winner: Idaho. WMU is very disappointing.

Buffalo at Bowling Green 3:30 pm
Winner: BG. BG wins a big one at home and starts out 1-0 in the MAC.

Ball St. at Cent. Michigan 3:30 pm
Winner: CMU. I do believe Ball State is going to get it figure out this year. Just not right now.

Northern Illinois at Akron 6:00 pm
Winner: NIU. Big.

Wyoming at Toledo 7:00 pm
Winner: Toledo. Unfortunately, UT gets to 4-1 on their defense. Wyoming's record is deceptive, though. They have lost three in a row, to Texas, Boise State, and Air Force, and they lost to AFA by only 6.

Yeah, I'm not too confident about some of these. We'll see.

I want to shoot for a perfect week, but I highly doubt it will be this week. On to my picks:

Ohio: Until EMU gets that W, I am going to pick against them. Ohio has definitely gone from contender to pretender this year.

Temple: They need to take this one seriously, because Army is sneaky good. Temple by at least 2 scores.

Kent. St.: This was a coin toss for me, but Kent. St has had a week to prepare.

WMU: I normally pick against any team that has to travel more than 2 time zones.

BGSU: A solid first half last week is something this team can build on, and no UB player has the speed of Robinson. BG by 2 scores.

CMU: Once again Ball St. isn't playing a Peewee football team this week, and they will lose.

NIU: Maybe Ball St. could be Akron, because they can't even score on the skeleton drill.

UT: See my comment for WMU.

4-way tie for the lead, it's on now. And the games get tougher to pick from here on, mostly MAC intraconference games.

Ohio at Eastern Michigan - Ohio - The Bobcats are a dissapointment, but they should still beat EMU. I would laugh my ass off if they lost.
Temple at Army - Temple - The Owls are legit, and should win this one resoundingly
Kent State at Miami - Miami - This is a very, very hard game to call. I'm going with the Redhawks at home, they've played well at Yager thus far.
Idaho at Western Michigan - Idaho - Give me the Vandals here, WMU has taken a big step back it looks like.
Buffalo at Bowling Green - Bowling Green - BGSU has played tougher teams thus far, and are at home, they should take this one.
Ball State at Central Michigan - Central Michigan - It's hard to tell exactly where CMU stands, but Ball State is bad. Chips at home.
Northern Illinois at Akron - Northern Illinois - This game could be ugly, Huskies big.
Wyoming at Toledo 7:00 pm - Toledo - This is an interesting one, but I like the Rockets here as they're on a bit of a winning streak.

Ohio at East. Michigan 12:00 pm EMU is due to get one. Ohio is not very good. I am going out on a limb and picking the Eagles to get the job done on the road!
Temple at Army 12:00 pm- Temple has some nice pieces this year, but seem to lack some focus. They will put it together against Army.
Kent St. at Miami (OH) 1:00 pm- Kent is fairly underated, but have gotten it handed to them a few times. Miami got shellacked against Mizzou last week. I think that Miami wins a good game.
Idaho at W. Michigan 2:00 pm- Idaho is no joke, as we learned last year. WMU has really struggled this year. Idaho gets the road win.
Buffalo at Bowling Green 3:30 pm- BG is going to come out on fire after that drilling last week. Buffalo played a good first half last week, but really collapsed in the 2nd. BG will win by 10 pts.
Ball St. at Cent. Michigan 3:30 pm- Could be a very good game, but Central will rightfully expect to and will win this game.
Northern Illinois at Akron 6:00 pm- NIU could play their golf team and still beat Akron....
Wyoming at Toledo 7:00 pm- The surprising Rockets will win again. But Wyoming won't roll over and play dead. Is it just me or does it seem like UT has about 10 non conference games this year?

Still suprised I am doing this good this year.
Here is my week 5 predicitons.

Ohio at East. Michigan - I dont think the Eagles are going to win many if any games this year. Bobcats will win.

Temple at Army - Temple is a pretty solid team this year and I think they will win this game.

Kent St. at Miami (OH) - I think Miami will win this one.

Idaho at W. Michigan- this is a hard game to pick but seeing that the Broncos are at home I think they just might win this game.

Buffalo at Bowling Green - The Falcons are in a must win situation and I think being at home on homecoming will help. They preformed great the last time they were in the doyt and with Boijic and possibly shilz coming back I think they can win this one.

Ball St. at Cent. Michigan - Chips will win.

Northern Illinois at Akron - Huskies big.

Wyoming at Toledo - The Rockettes are at home and have the homefield advantage and seeing they beat purdue they should beat wyoming.
