Any chance there will be some turnover in MAC coaches this year? Anyone getting fired, or anyone getting hired away? Just wondering, because it's about the time to start that up again already!

Cubit at WMU...was supposed to be a West title contender and yet the Broncos are stumbling around under .500 again. He's been there a while and his seat has to be warming up.

I think you always have to look at the top for movement in the MAC. AL Golden is certainly the hot coach right now and will be a candidate for more than 1 opening this off season. I'm pretty sure Golden is waiting for Penn state to open but with Joe Pa you never know, he could coach 4 more years. Not sure if Golden can afford to pass up Bcs jobs if they open while waiting for PSU. Also I don't know much about the Nothern illinois coach but I'm sure his name will come up for jobs also.. Not sure who's on the hot seat cubits been respectable I think it depends on how Western mich finishes. I think its too early for Akron and Eastern mich and ball and miami oh seem to be improveing. In the end I think golden may be on the move.

Hey........maybe Toledo Tim (or is it Buckeye Tim) wins the MAC conference (as he puts it) and is gone this year! I know he has stated that his objective is to "win and get out"!

Pretty sure Al Golden has no shot whatsoever if Joe Pa leaves. Current assistant coach Mike McQueary has ben rumored to be next in line. Paterno's son is also on the current staff but I haven't heard his name mentioned in any serious discussions.

You couldn't be more wrong! Al Golden has a Great shot at Penn State and is problly the front runner. Paternos son has no shot and I don't think they will stay in house once Jo Pa leaves.. If you think Golden has no shot than you have No Clue

I think you're right, Golden is definitely a contender for Penn State, though not a shoo-in by any means. One factor will be if the administration wants someone with a BC$ track record or if they just want someone who has won (i.e. Tressel, Meyer).

You're right, too, that we have to be looking at the top of the MAC for movement, though there's typically changes at the top AND bottom.

Doug Martin has stepped down (aka would have been fired) from Kent State, and Stan Parrish has been fired from Ball State. So, there indeed will be new head coaches in the conference next year. We'll know within a month if there will be any more than two new coaches next year.

We can now add Nother Illinois to the list of MAC schools looking for a new coach. Jerry Kill accepted the minnasota job this morning starting at 1 million per year.

The Kill move is a shocker to me. He really just got settled at NIU and while he's done a nice job with the Huskies, he hasn't turned them into a monster or anything. Then again, Minnesota is a grist mill for coaches.

So we have three MAC openings already -

Ball State
Kent State
Northern Illinois

Should add some intrigue to the off season at least.

Are there any other potential openings?
New Guys from last year are
Akron
Buffalo
Central

Eastern
BG
Toledo
Miami

So thats ten of the 13 teams with changes in the last 3 years.

The 3 teams with no changes are Western, OU and Temple who Golden may get a chance somewhere soon.

Unless Haywood, Solich, Beckham, or Golden get offered a better job I don't see there being anymore changes in the MAC. Had Western finished under .500 I could have seen them making a move, but I think they will stick with Cubit now

Unlikely Beckham gets a better offer- the disastrous stay in MLS precludes anyone wanting to pay him the money he and his wife would demand-I foresee modeling and a reality show for him.

It took me a minute to figure this one out. Must be late in the day.
