Ummmm I understand we lost (that is not why I posted this), but how embarrassing for the MAC that they have an officiating crew that is that horrible. It has to be embarrassing to the conference. I think it might be time to clean house.

I don't know why we paid them because 50% of the game was called from the replay booth!!

They wouldn't have to go to the booth every third play if they actually got some calls right on the field. Between that and the microphone that never seems to work for any game at DLP, the refs made a hot mess of the game last night. Neither team could get into any sort of offensive or defensive rhythm because there were play stoppages every ten seconds or so it seemed.

I know the fog made things difficult, but the refs in the MAC are just plain unprofessional a lot of the time. It's an embarrassment for the conference.

Why was there no penalty when the Miami player put his fingers into the helmet and physically ripped the helmet right off the BG players head? Sounds silly but would that not have been a personal foul?

We thought the same thing. The receiver was already slowed at that point...the only way that helmet comes flying out of the pile like it did was if it was ripped off by one of the tacklers.

Overall I must agree with the premise of this thread. The officiating in that game last night was HORRENDOUS. One of the worst I've ever seen. They could NEVER figure out what the clock was, where to get the ball spotted, etc. Throw in all of the replays because of missed calls and my god was it a choppy game. SOOOO choppy. I know we left the game last night saying that it was a shame that what was actually a pretty good football game was ruined by the awful officiating.

Off the top of my head anecdote: Late in the game (maybe Miami's 2nd or 3rd to last possession?) they took a timeout. After the timeout ended the players all line up and are ready to snap the ball, but the officials don't give them the go ahead. Event Staff was clear, they were back from commercial...then the officials get together and discuss something for 30 seconds. What the hell are they discussing? Dinner plans!? Seriously, it was a TIMEOUT...NOTHING had changed. The ball didn't move, the clock didn't move, there was nothing to discuss, they were simply returning from the offensive team calling a timeout...yet we're forced to sit there and watch them confer for 30 seconds about god only knows what!


Seriously the officiating was BAD last night. No ability to keep the game going at all...a real embarrassment to a conference that is probably pretty damn used to them by now.

And do the coaches have absolutely no power at all to tell ESPN to go eff themselves and just play the game without the TV timeouts when we have serious fog issues?

And what was up with that exceedingly long timeout between the 3rd and 4th quarter. They played the whole house of pain song which is over 3 and 1/2 minutes long!

They actually ended up taking 4 or 6 seconds off the game clock after that little discussion. But your point still stands that there was a freaking timeout and they couldn't have figured out the game clock issue during the time out.

I didn't notice they changed the game clock, but if that's the case, yes it could have been done DURING the timeout.

The game was just terribly officiated as a whole. Never got any flow to it, which is a shame because it was actually a good, competitive game.

And I understand taking media timeouts are a part of the game when there's a timeout on the field, but how in the hell is there a full TV timeout taken when we only called TO to avoid a delay of game before a FG try? Sure, we should have had our FG team out there, but to turn a 20-second timout into 4 minutes is ridiculous. ESPECIALLY considering if he made the kick, they'd get their TV timeout there.
