Anyone else just despise it? I see it more every week. The referees don't have the balls to make the correct call on the field because they have instant replay as their backups. But than camera angles don't show anything conclusive and a lot of times an incorrect call is made. I am not talking about just the MAC. I see it in SEC and conference USA games as well.
I don't want to do away with it completely because it has its merits but there shouldn't be an unlimited amount of replays. What's the point of having these guys out there if they can't make a judgement call.
The NFL's instant replay isn't perfect either but it is better in my opinion.
Instant Replay

Funny, I actually prefer the college system.kdog27 wrote:Anyone else just despise it? I see it more every week. It shouldn't be up to the coaches to challenge a call because they think the officials screwed up. I also don't like the fact that in the NFL you can be stuck with an obviously incorrect call if you don't have any timeouts or challenges left.
I like the college system, but I think the replay should only be called when the replay official actually thinks it looks like the original call was wrong. It seems like too often they go to replay just because it was a close call, period.
Of course with the unlimited replay system there is always the chance that you get games like last night with 6 or 7 reviews. I see that as a problem with the officials on the field more than a problem with the system.

Re: Instant Replay
Hambb,
I have to agree with you re: the officiating crew last nite....I'm not going to "blame" them for a loss that we probably deserved...but they seemed to be very indecisive many times, whether in ball placement, getting play restarted etc.
No one that I know of has YET to figure out why the ref blew the play dead on the Miami punt return that "allegedly" the kid had waved a fair catch on, but it never shows on the replay. I've heard complaints about MAC officials before, but this is the 1st time that I felt their "impact" on the game...i.e. in terms of the flow of the game. Couple that with TV timeouts, "reviews" etc. and it's a miracle the game was over at 11:33.
Fortunately for us, the fog pretty much lifted by the time we hit the turnpike and I was snug in my lil ol bed at 2:30 am...though couldn't fall asleep till over an hour later... Typical for me after a nite game and a long drive home.

Re: Instant Replay
Which is why I said the NFL's system is not perfect. I think it is pretty dumb that you can successfully challenge 2 plays a game (think its 2?). If you get it right you should be able to challenge until you get it wrong.hammb wrote:Funny, I actually prefer the college system.kdog27 wrote:Anyone else just despise it? I see it more every week. So maybe it's just me but I see many games where officials don't make call that they use to because they have backup. It takes the flow of the game away. I don't care for 4 hour games personally. Plus it seems like so often so you see a play they review and get it wrong even when the replay shows something. That interception last night for example sure looked like it hit the ground.
