My old school view ...

So pleased to be able to watch some Bowling Green football, even it was the typical less-than-idea conditions of a Miami game. :)

The team definitely looks young, no doubt. But I came away with two thoughts nagging me.

1) A small thing, but how does Jordan get caught from behind on that pass play? I guess I figure our WRs should be fast enough to beat a DB to the end zone with five-yard head start.

2) A bigger thing, and I know this can be attributed to my age and outs me as an Old Schooler, but I believe that the key to most any game is the offensive line. If the O Line takes care of business, you control the tempo of the game and can open up your playbook, playing to strengths and hiding weaknesses. Hammb has highlighted the problems with our O Line in other posts, but I don't think we can overlook the impact that poor O Line play has across the board.

And I'm not saying we have a bad line. They are, however, not playing well (if last night was any indication). That could be due to injury, inexperience, whatever. But the trickle down effect is huge.

As for Jorden - he does not have breakaway speed. He's more of a possession receiver than a breakaway guy like Sharon was. He is not all that incredibly fast, but he is very athletic, has great size, and can do a lot to get open and make things happen once he has the ball. Big problem, though - he's had some problem dropping passes all year. Once he improves that, I really see a Steve Sanders in him.

Obviously the fog made it a little difficult to tell, but it looked like the ball slipped in his hand as he was breaking away from the corner. He definitely slowed down a little bit. I don't think Jorden has great top end speed, but I think that split second cost him the TD.

Exactly what I was going to say. It certainly looked that way on the replay.

If he doesn't look back, he would have scored. He looked back TOO MANY TIMES! Just run with the ball toward the end zone!!!
