Kent coach stepping down
From the AP, Doug Martin is resigning, effective after their last game, vs. Miami(OH)

Our favorite Martian. Not such a surprise, I guess. Seemed like Kent State was always on the verge of becoming a contender, but, obviously, never got there.
Always interesting to see who gets mentioned as possible replacements.

Hopefully they don't replace him with Dan Hawkins, the former Boise St/Colorado head coach.

Man, he would be a steal for somebody. He had a monster going at Boise State. However, the recent successes at Boise State and the failure at Colorado beg the question ... was Chris Petersen the genius behind Hawkins at Boise State?transfer2BGSU wrote:Hopefully they don't replace him with Dan Hawkins, the former Boise St/Colorado head coach.
MarkL has spoken.

I think Beckman will jump at the job!!!!!! After all, its a bigger metropolitan area and they haven't grown tired of his constant pating himself on the back and it's closer to Tresselville (BW).
He wouldn't even have to change colors.

Re: Kent coach stepping down
Some coaches who could come to MAC schools:
Gus Malzahn: Probably waiting for a decent BCS gig to open up.
Tony Franklin: Good OC, and could probably have a MAC offense humming in a short time.
Steve Kragthorpe: Built a solid program at Tulsa, and now may be resigned to working at smaller schools.
Those are 3 names that I figured would be considered for an opening, but who knows?

Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach PE.

Dan Hawkins???? Sure why not, afterall "ITS DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL".
Philosophical question: After this weekends drubbing, do I need to get a new signature line?

There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Absolutely. All MAC schools (generally) draw from a similar pool of candidates, so the names that get tossed around in one search tend to pop up in subsequent hiring cycles.
Kent has begged Larry Kehres for years to consider the job and he'll probably get asked again. A more realistic fit for them would be someone like Luke Fickell, the linebackers coach/co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State.
