Boise St LOSES

Post by gmartin »

Boise St loses to Nevada in OT. 34-31. Wild Finish

Nevada ties game with :09 remaining. Boise QB throws a 58 yd pass to the 8 yd line in 7 seconds for the win but Boise FG kicker pushes a 27 yd fg. Then in OT Boise misses another 27 yd fg. Nevada walk on freshman kicks a 37 yd for the win

What a game!

I know the OT field goal was wide left but I reviewed the other FG at end of regulation and I thought it was good. Anyone else see the kick.

And now for the bad news. With Nevada winning it cost the WAC its chance at BCS Bowl and just a measly 17.5 million for the conference. Now Boise will play in a bowl with a 750,000 payout. Good for Nevada bad for the conference

I thought the one at the end of regulation was good as well.

We got a conspiracy now!! ESPN News slowed down the kick and different angle shows the first kick WAS good as it went above the upright flag. That play is not reviewable either. Those calls of the balls going above the top of the uprights are hard to judge. Coach Peterson and people farther back got the best view and that's why they thought it was good. Tough way to lose after an amazing throw and catch on the previous play.

I was pulling for Boise, so the end result sucks, but that was an awesome game.

I initially thought it looked good and thought it looked wide on the replay. It could have gone either way with the mini-goal posts. Two things:

1. What is the correct ruling if the ball goes directly over the upright? If it looks like it would deflect through, it's good? If it looks like it would doink and land in the end zone, no good?

2. So, the WAC lost roughly $16.5M with Nevada winning this morning. I'm sorry if this sounds bad, but I would have thought that game-changing close calls would have gone to the Broncos. There's a lot more corrupt stuff going on in college sports than coin-flip calls going toward the $$. Not just the end of game kick - I thought the kick catch interference call that would have been a Boise first down deep in Nevada territory was close, but a bad call. The PI call with the score 24-7 on 4th down was standard, down field hand fighting. The bat ahead call on the blocked kick was definitely the right call, but that was a huge call that really hurt Boise. Boise needed those calls because Nevada really took it to them on both sides of the ball in the 2nd half.

Ball directly over the upright is no good...the whole ball must be on the "good" side of the upright to be as such. If the official determines that there is any doubt the kick is no good, it must be waved off.
