notable things from the interview:
Opening Statement:
* "I really want to thank our fans- This was a 2-9 football team playing today and for all the people that showed up to this game under these weather conditions- we really appreciate their loyal support. It means a lot that we had fans out there today and that they continue to support the Falcons through the good times and the bad, so I really wanted to thank them."
On Schilz:
"Uneven, uh inconsistent. You know, it'd been tough for Tyler Sheehan to play quarterback for us this year. Just the amount of hits that he has taken all year."
On Geter:
* "Willie got hurt last game- the other thing it was a disciplinary issue. Willie missed a meeting on Sunday- that's why he didn't play the 1st quarter...
...We weren't sure if he'd be able to go or not; he didn't practice the whole week. I don't know if he got a rep the whole week of practice. It was kinda gonna be a game-time deal, see how he felt. And he made some nice plays out there."
On Offense:
"We had 5 offensive lineman start the year, 3 of them got hurt. On offense only 3 guys the whole year, of our 11 starters only 3 of them were healthy the whole year. Tyler Donahue, Kamar Jordan, and Chip Robinson...
...it was a fine line to start the year and really after the Marshall Game the line got crossed and it was an uphill battle since then."

While all that might be true, we still shouldn't have finished the season 1-7 in the MAC. If we were playing in a major conference that is one thing, but Miami won

the East this year. Northern Illinois was the only good team in the conferece. Ohio and Toledo were slightly above avg. Temple and miami were ok. Everyone else was awful. Excuses don't explain how the team laid down at against several teams this year.

Huge difference in how Clawson regarded the attendance versus how Brandon regarded the same scenario. Anybody notice that? Makes me glad Brandon is gone and Clawson is here.

Translation : wa wa wa , excuses excuses excuses, we were hurt wahh we were the only team in the ncaa who had players hurt. Geeze bad enough we had to watch this season now we gotta hear all the excuses after the season.. Just man up take responsibility for a bad season and say it was unacceptable and we will do our best to make sure we get it turned around.. Its this whiny attitude that rubbed off on the players as the season progressed. When the players hear all the excusses from the coaches its easy for them to belive it and play with buikt in excuses... The players showed no emotion... Were hurt were young our oline has different starters wa wa wa ... I guess all is ok bow that we know how hard it was for you. Take alook around the country at teams like boston College or va tech no excuses for rough starts just go play

Im adding to my previous post:: Here is what Urban had to say in his press conference.. I didnt hear anything about being young or hurt or losing perhaps the greatest college player of all time (tebow) Do you see excusses ??
Following the 31-7 loss at Florida State, Meyer said, “I can assure you we are going to rebuild this thing and build it up the right way and do it right. Obviously we are down a little bit. I didn’t believe we would be that far down – but we are,” he said. How do you build up a program? I’ve done it a few times. You build it up with tough players, tough coaches, and you got to play better. You have to have a plan to win.”
“Obviously this is the first time…2010 is the first time in 10 years we did not follow a plan to win. You can’t turn the ball over.”
“Recruit our butt off is what we’re going to do – and that starts tonight. Coaches are all on the road tomorrow, so we’re going to recruit our butt off and build this thing back up. Obviously we’re down. We got to build this thing back up. [...] How do you rebuild it? Tough-ass players and tough-ass coaches.”
As far as coaching staff evaluations, Meyer stated, “I’m not ready to comment on that because I have not had the reflective moment. Usually I wait until after the recruiting season to do all that. I’m going to get real busy obviously.”
Would you like to be at Morning #1 of winter conditioning with the Gators?

Sportydude: Glad you know so much about the personalities of coaches. I listened to part, not all of Clawson's postgame...didn't get the impression he was crying or making excuses...just stating facts.
Most of us have talked about the O-line and its problems this year..Having to bring DL's to play OL isn't exactly what the coaches envisioned, but it proved to be necessary without burning redshirts on kids who might not be ready yet.
My only real complaint about Clawson? Why continue to play a young QB who's been hurt all season and...in fact...didn't even THROW during practices during the week? It would've been a good time to get a better look in game conditions for at least two of the kids who DIDN"T have to worry about losing their redshirts. Sending in Pankratz with 3:30 left in the game is almost an insult IMO, and then having him hand off twice and throw one pass didn't make sense. I believe Pagel was "eligible" too. So why continue to play one kid who's not 100%?
As to "tough love" coaches, how about sitting Geter for a full Q in his last game as a disciplinary measure for missing a meeting? You sit your best RB and team Capt. in his Senior year. Hopefully, it's a message to returning players.

You think sitting Getter for one quarter sent a message?? Are you serious , let me stop laughing!! Ok a senior from a 2-9 team heading into a meaningless the last game of the year sits for ONE quarter>>> Oh yea he really learned his lesson. Im sure the underclassmen are in fear Now. If your the best skill player on offense dont you dare miss a meeting or you will sit 1 whole quarter.. If Clawson had any balls he would have told getter to pack his s**t and go home and watch the last game of his senior year from the stands or his living room.. NOt exactly a harsh punishment

Have you ever talked to Clawson personally? I highly doubt it. I, on the other hand, have. I actually had dinner with him and his family. He is a good coach and one bad season is not enough to condemn anybody, just as one fantastic season does not necessarily translate into continued success. You take it one game, one season at a time. The man knows football; he loves to talk football. I will keep my faith in Clawson until he shows me there is no reason to do so. He doesn't make excuses, he straight up tells it like it is. And you know what, that doesn't change because of the arena. He told me exactly what he thought at that dinner and he told everybody exactly what he thought in that press conference.

From what I gather of this season, the coaching staff was trying to institute a program style and an offensive scheme for the future. So I give them a pass on this season. However, if we don't see the fruits of this next season, changes will need to be made.
And while it's great to have a class guy who you love to have a beer and talk football with...if he doesn't start winning then...

Wow you and Clawson must be best friends! I guess him smooth talking you at dinner is enough for you to ignore the terrible season we had. Not sure how we got on to the subject of how polite clawson is at the dinner table, I thought this was about his post season press conference. I still think he needs to instill a toughness in this team and light a fire under some of the assistant coaches, not talk about what coulda and shoulda been if not for injuries that happen to every team every year in the country

And we don't know whether that happens behind closed doors or not.
I certainly don't want a head coach calling out his coaches in the media.
