For all of you that have questions on where the football program was, where it going, and the plan to get us there, you really need to listen to Coach Clawson's end of the year press conference. There are 4-5 segments that last 45 minutes or so. They are very educational.

Its easy rationalize and make excuses, which is all the first 10 min was. Bottom line we were 2-10 in a bad MAC this season. We also played several games in which we didn't compete. Someone posted an Urban Meyer press conference on another thread. I think his attitude is a little more what we need instead of passing the buck to the previous regime and putting a positive spin on it like we've heard from Clawson and the AD.
Clawson deserves the opportunity for at least one more season. Probably two more unless next year is a disaster like this year was, but we need less spin and more production. Hopefully this plan of redshirting the freshman works and we'll be a little more talented next year. I think the biggest thing is attitude.

Article in the Blade today-much of the fault is laid at the feet of the previous coach. Can't find it in the online version but Clawson does say that he was told his second year would be the bigger challenge of his first two.

A team that had no play makers, had to pull D-linemen to play on the OL, and have one of the poorest tackling teams in the country is a recipe for a terrible year. Most of us knew this team was going to take a step back this year. My judgement on Clawson will come next year. If he is the coach that many of us thought he was after last season he will have this team humming along. If not it may be time to start looking for the next Urban.

One of his comments was that if a team is doing all the right things off the field (excelling in the classrooms, on-time to conditioning, working hard in the weight room, attentive in team meetings ...), leaders will emerge among the team and success on the field will come. This all has to do with building the team in a sustainable way. I had an e-mail conversation with Coach Clawson before the season started. I'm not going to reveal the details of what was discussed, but a line he said really hit home for me about the character of this guy: "We are trying to build a program from the foundation up that will survive the test of time and allow us to be successful in the long-term." That same message is still what's being said, even after a 2-10 season. Yes, the season was tough, but I have not changed my views on him as a coach. He's the right guy for the job, and the program building that is going on right now and the young depth that is being built is, I believe, going to pay off very nicely in 2011, 2012, and beyond.

Just noticed at the end of the Blade article that Clawson said Blaec Walker's CAREER is over, due to the injury... I didn't realize it was that serious... (I think we were on vacation when it happened...Buffalo game?)

Bummer ... he's a really good guy. I met him in his freshman year and was quite impressed with him. And cool sidenote ... my old band director in high school left for Middletown High School after my sophomore year to work closer to where he lived. Blaec went to MHS and had that director for four years in band. We shared some good Mr. L stories, and it was very apparent that Blaec was a good, well-rounded guy. I wish the best to him in his future.

Never like to hear that sort of thing. Hope that Blaec stays focused on the books, gets his BG degree and has great success.

Very impressive indeed. Coach Clawson, despite what some here think, does not make excuses or mince words. He tells it like it is and unfortunately, we need to correct things left over from the Brandon era. I was a supporter of Brandon but it is clear he didn't leave the program in very good shape. Nobody is passing the buck to the previous regime. It is what it is.
BTW, Urban and the Gators finished 7-5 this year including blowout losses to Alabama (31-6), South Carolina (36-14) and Florida State (31-7). Not to mention Urban is completing his 6th season in Gainesville while Coach Clawson just finished his 2nd yr. Just sayin'...
I loved hearing Coach say this..."The program started Monday. They were lifting and the 2011 season started 3 days ago".
Clawson is the man for the job and I am jacked up for the 2011 season...it won't get here soon enough.
Very sorry to hear about Blaec Walker.

Best wishes to him for his future.

Hope he stays connected with the football program. They need role models like him connected to every sports team!!!

This thread reminds of a scene from the movie "Traffic."
A man leaves his successor two envelopes to be opened when he gets into trouble. The first time he gets into trouble the successor opens the first envelope, and the letter says "Blame your predecesor." The second time he gets into trouble he opens the second envelope, and letter says "Start writing your two letters."

That is terrible news! There were so many injuries to the OL, but if I remember correctly, it was the Michigan game, when a guy fell into his leg. I can't believe it ended his career.....WOW! Big loss.....
