If you were going to hire strength and conditioning coaches solely off a picture of their head this guy would certainly be in the running.

If he's got an NSCA cert, he knows what he's doing. They don't hand those out at Walmart

Wonder how often BG gets someone who was the Head of a program at a "BCS" school to take over the same job here?

I definitely noticed his qualifications. I'm assuming he wouldn't be here if Clawson wasn't here. Clawson has a lot of contacts, and this one just happens to be from a larger institution.

I wondered that as well, but I don't remember the article saying exactly what he did at Virginia as to whether he was in charge of just football or not.

I also never realized that Hillman was in charge of all sports at BG. I just assumed it was only football. ;)

It's usually a nice title given to the top assistant while the #1 is called "director of strength and conditioning" or something like that. Two years ago Timmy hired the #2 guy from BG's strength program. He had the "head strength coach" title as well and one of their apostles was on here boasting that they had stolen our top guy.

Good call to whoever had predicted the Richmond connection. I have a feeling Clawson would hire Robert E. Lee if given the chance.

Since Hourigan will be overseeing athletes in all sports, I don't think his hiring was strictly Clawson's call

Anyone interested in seeing our new coach in action can check out "The Building of a Program" series about Virginia football. The production value is impressive (NFL Films caliber) and shows the behind the scenes workings of a Division IA operation.

There's 18 total episodes and many focus heavily on coach Hourigan and the implementation of his philosophies.

I heard he was fired from UVA after the season, (not sure why), so my guess he was looking for a job....I can't imagine the pay being equal between BG and UVA.

Well, according to this his departure from Virginia was announced on January 7, but he did not leave Virginia for BG.
