BG and Louisiana Tech home-&-home added to future schedule

Post by BGSU33 »

On the most recent Ask the Ad segment, GC said BG and LT will be playing a home-&-home series. He did not mention the date or years, but did say something about being booked full through 2014. Here is what we have so far:

2011
Sept. 3 @ Idaho
Sept. 10 MORGAN STATE
Sept. 17 WYOMING
Oct. 1 @ West Virginia

2012
Sept. 1 @ Florida
Sept. 8 IDAHO
Sept. 22 @ Virginia Tech
Sept. 29 RHODE ISLAND

2013
Sept. 14 @ Indiana
Sept. 21 MURRAY STATE
Sept. 28 TULSA
Oct. 12 @ Mississippi State

2014
Aug. 28 @ Western Kentucky
Sept. 6 VMI
Sept. 13 INDIANA

2015
Sept. 12 @ Maryland
Sept. 26 @ Purdue

2016
Sept. 10 MARYLAND

* Home-&-home series with Louisiana Tech - TBA
GO BG!!!

Given that, I would assume @ LT would be in 2014, and the home return would be 2015 or 2016. The only bad part of a home-&-home series like this is we go there first, and we've been burned on things like that in the past.

And that is precisely why we write in HUGE financial penalties into our contracts now.

The schedules aren't bad...I just wish we could get rid of the 1aa opponents on a yearly basis. One every other year is fine, but every year makes it tough on attendence. My guess is with the way the team has played, GC is trying to get an easy win every year. I just don't get excited to watch us play Morgan State. All in all though, the schedule seems like we should be able to compete with, as long as the team gets their act together.
On another note, those ask the AD segments are getting quite comical. GC is good at making excuses for losing. I get a good chuckle out of that segment every time.

From an attendance standpoint you get a good bump playing an Indiana or Minnesota rather than an FCS school but if you're comparing a Wyoming or Louisiana Tech or Western Kentucky vs. an FCS school I doubt that it makes any difference at all attendance-wise.

I have zero problem with playing a 1AA (or FCS) team at home every year.

I actually like that we have some FCS opponents on the schedule. Every year we comment on how physically draining our OOC schedule is and how banged up our team is after those four games. Also, we generally only get one home game out of those four games. With this, we have a somewhat easier time with one of our OOC games and we get a home game out of it, usually giving us two OOC home games.

Every year is fine with me. footballguy51 makes a great point about wear and tear.

My "ideal" OOC schedule would look something like this ...

A: Payday (i.e. @ Zero State, @ Florida)
A: home-and-home with other mid-major (Marshall, La. Tech)
H: home-and-home with other mid-major (Marshall, La. Tech)
H: FCS

The other thing to mix in would be a 2-for-1 with a lower-end BCS team (Minnesota, etc.)

Once we build the program into high-level mid-major, we can talk about losing the FCS game into another BCS game, but we are not there yet.

I agree. Most teams play an FCS team every year, and so should we. We have had some nice crowds for FCS games in the past....they are usually early in the year when the weather is nice and I honest to god don't see any evidence that our fans differentiate that much. Also, I think fans like having an easy win to eatch.

Greg Christopher has made it clear that he wants to avoid 2-for-1s. Minnesota was a one and one. Indiana in the future is a one and one. I guess the Maryland deal never finished up, but that was a one and one. I think we could strike one and ones with a few other lower level BCS teams, like Iowa State, Duke, Syracuse, etc.
