First day of spring practice....

Post by Flipper »

Interesting comments from Clawson....I think one of the reasons the team didn't show as much improvement over the course of the season last year was the lack of "internal competition"...you improve a bit faster if someone's pushing you.

Definitely sounds like Rice is a LB, Roussos is the RT and it's a two man race at QB.

Very encouraging. Good observation, Flip. Seems like Clawson is excited about depth, and that's a very good sign.

Flipper: Internal competition, AT Toledo no need to babysit D-1 players they come and give it there best effort. Why is a player on the field if he is not giving 110 percent? :axe:

Congratulations. A full sentence with correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling. As a bonus, you even use three words with more than one syllable.

You should have no problems in third grade next year.

Good stuff from Coach...I like hearing the competition on the O line and the fact we will have pretty much a two deep there and in the secondary. Sounds like Schilz and Hurley are the guys at QB for now.

Also, good to hear some of the younger LB's have improved much over the off season. Stopping the run has to be priority #1 for the 2011 season on defense.

Just noticed the season opener against Idaho is on a Thursday night....I can't wait to play them again after the bowl game a couple years ago. That could turn into a nice rivalry...

Per the Sentinel Trib, Pankratz has left the squad. Given that he was mentioned in the prospectus and listed on the roster his departure must have been a bit sudden. Based on the following quote form Clawson, I don't think it was a real amicable split...

“Now we have two good ones,” Clawson said about the quarterbacks. “We’re not wasting reps (repetitions) at quarterback now. There’s not a rep that’s being taken by somebody who can’t and won’t play for us.

Ouch!!

Yikes!
At least we know the other two are fully committed. Just from this, I am really looking forward to next year - it's obvious Clawson is not putting up with lackluster effort.

So the two are Hurley and Schilz. What about Johnson?

Johnson isn't here yet I don't think. He didn't enroll early that I know of. He'll be here for summer and fall practice.
