Checked out UB's campus

Post by 1987alum »

Noah & I went from Boy Scout camp in the Finger Lakes region of NY to Buffalo to pick up Mrs. 87 & Catie (from there we went to Niagara Falls).

Took the opportunity to check out the UB campus while we were there. As you would expect, most of the campus was locked up pretty tight on a July Sunday, but we did manage to get into the stadium - legally - and check it out.

The playing surface is nice, but that track sure puts a lot of distance between the fans and the field. And the stands are at such a gentle slope that you feel like you're a mile away just 20 rows up.

Oh, and we couldn't resist this one:

Very nice campus, but it is sprawling. I can't imagine trying to walk it. Lots of construction underway, particularly new student housing.

Anyway, nice to visit another MAC campus. So I can once again say I've been to every MAC school!

They haven't started playing yet. When they do, I'll get there.

UB's got some nice things going for it. We'll be up there again this yr for the regular season finale. It has to be every bit as brutal as BG in the winter, though. And their students are some of the worst in the MAC> :)

I've been to 79 of the 120 FBS campuses and stadiums, and I will be at East Carolina University in a few weeks to make it an even 80. I’m working my way to see them all. I've also been to some of the Ivy League schools and many of the FCS campuses and stadiums as well. I love seeing all the different schools across the country. It's a hobby of mine and I really enjoy seeing all the various settings, buildings, layouts, etc. I have also been to all the MAC campuses, but I personally didn't care much for Buffalo at all. It felt and looked like a community college on steroids to me. I felt the campus was extremely bland and almost drab in parts. As for UB’s football stadium, I agree, the track just makes the stands feel too far back. I didn’t mind the sideline grandstands as much, but those large endzone seating sections are almost always empty and usually covered in places with tarps. They just make the place seem so wide and empty. I sort of felt the same way about their basketball arena as well. About the only thing I liked about UB’s campus was the lake with the arches by it. I would honestly put UB’s campus at the bottom of the MAC overall. Yes, even in front of Toledo. ;) Just my opinion.
GO BG!!!

UB added those end zone sections when it hosted the World University Games years ago...
