Is Matt Schiltz the Answer for this Year?

Hello fellas,

New to the site but I am a super MAC fan and cannot wait for the college season to kick off once again. (Not just football but EVERY SPORT :supz: )

I have a question for you guys, do you think that Matt Schiltz can lead your team to a winning season this year? It seems that BG is contempt to keep the aerial attack. Are they going to try to run the ball more this year or is Schiltz going to have to turn into Tyler Sheehan for them to have a chance?

Thanks
Pack The Mac.

I would like to bump this because it took away for it to be approved and now seems to have been buried.

Thanks

I think you meant "contemptable".

I don't think so? I just want to know your guy's thoughts on the offense next year. Schiltz is going to have to carry a heavy load for such a young player.

Don't listen to H20...he's a Toledo Rockette. Something those of us in polite society refer to as a "loony bastard".

To answer your question, I've been a Falcon fan for over 30 years. We've pretty much always been a pass happy bunch...we had a few years in the 2000's where the number of rushing attempts and passing attempts were close to even, but historically speaking, you will find more great QB's and WR's in our record books than RB's. Having said that, we HAVE to run the ball better and I think we will try to do that this season moreso than last. I think Jordan Hopgood will be the man at TB when all is said and done. If we truly have improved the OLine over last year, he should improve on last year's starter, Willie Geter's (graduated) numbers.

welcome to the board...ignore birdman, he's both a tool and a troll.

Oh..and to answer your original question..if he's healthy Schilz will have some awesome numbers this year. We have a number of good WR's returning from last year (it's by far our most experienced group) and we have two kids coming in from FL who were *** guys with a number of BCS offers. We are also strong at TE...look for Kendall Montgomery to emerge there this year.

Of course, this all depends on if Schilz is the starter. There is going to be competition this year.

Excellent point...I think his experience as the starter will eventually give Schilz the edge over Hurley. But Hurley was a very highly touted HS QB and showed some very nice athleticism in the spring game. Whomever starts, the back up is almost certain to see a fair amount of action. Most everyone in the MAC last year played two QB's out of necessity, IIRC.

When you factor in freshmen Matt Johnson and Malik Stokes, we have four QB's who were rated *** by at least one recruiting service while in HS. I don't recall us ever having that much talent on hand at QB.

Schilz is keeping the seat warm for Hurley

I'm a big fan of Matt Schilz. Before he went down with injury, he showed how good he could be. He was not the same after that shoulder injury but he showed a whole lot of toughness. I expect big things from him this year.

Quick note ... this is his third year in the program so he's really not that young. In Tyler's third year he led an upset over Pitt, and in Omar's third year he passed for 41 TDs.

Media Guide depth chart says Matt Schilz OR Trent Hurley. I tend to agree with Mark. When Schilz was healthy, he impressed me. Whichever guy can lead us to the MAC title is fine with me. Hurley can play...no question from his HS numbers.

As long as the O line, which I feel will be much improved, can stay healthy and give these guys time to throw, they can be BiG time.

515 hours til kickoff...GO BG.

Sounds like Hurley did pretty damn good in the scrimmage last night. "engineered several scoring drives, running 21 yards for one score before throwing TD passes of 49 yards to Eugene Cooper adn seven yards to Alex Bayer." (from today's Blade)

Great to hear. However, the bigger issue may be if he can shred our defense like that we may have to score on offense because our defense may be transparent this season.

Hope this isn't the case, but that's what I read out of that article.

I have seen a couple of other practices (not last nights scrimmage) and it looked to me like the defense was WAY ahead of the offense, so I was glad to see the "O" finally got it going. In other practices, it looked to me like the QB was always getting hurried, so maybe that has been solved now.

I like how everyone is clearly and properly spelling Schilz but the original author of the thread hasn't fixed it in the title.
