Pick the MAC Games - Week 1

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

Another football season, another great season of Pick the MAC - started of course by the great MarkL (was waiting for you to post but its just 2 days before kickoff)

For those of you who have participated in the past, the premise is simple - each week the games involving all MAC teams will be posted, you decide who will win each game, straight up. The season records will be tabulated and the winner at the end of the season gets...well, most likely a BG related prize of MarkL's choosing. (At least that's when its been in the past, who knows about this year)

Anyways - here's week 1:

Thursday, September 1:
Villanova vs Temple - 7pm
South Carolina State at Central Michigan - 7pm
New Hampshire at Toledo - 7pm
Bowling Green at Idaho - 9pm

Saturday, September 3:
Miami at #21 Missouri - 12pm
Akron at #18 Ohio State - 12pm
Kent State at #2 Alabama - 1230pm
Western Michigan at Michigan - 330pm
Buffalo at Pittsburgh - 6pm
Indiana at Ball State - 7pm
Howard at Eastern Michigan - 7pm
Army at Northern Illinois - 7pm
Ohio at New Mexico State - 8pm

ANNNDDD my picks for week 1:
Villanova vs Temple - Villanova - tough cross town rivalry that's usually close. Temple should drop off this year, so I like Villanova in a close one.
South Carolina State at Central Michigan - Central Michigan - CMU should be much improved this season, they get off to a good start here.
New Hampshire at Toledo - Toledo - The Rockets should make a serious run at the MAC Championship this season, this is step 1 in the journey.
Bowling Green at Idaho - Bowling Green - perhaps a minor upset on paper, but the Falcons usually play great week 1, they knock off the Vandals.
Miami at #21 Missouri - Missouri - I'm very tempted to go for the upset here, but I can't. The Redhawks give the Tigers a hard time but come up short in the end.
Akron at #18 Ohio State - Ohio State - Ohio State won't be very good this season, but Akron is horrible.
Kent State at #2 Alabama - Alabama - Wrong opponent for Kent, Tuscaloosa will be geeked for first game since April's tornado tragedy.
Western Michigan at Michigan - Michigan - Again, thought about an upset, but I think the Wolverines handle the Broncos.
Buffalo at Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh isn't that good, but Buffalo is awful. Shame BG isn't playing here instead.
Indiana at Ball State - Ball State - Maybe a minor upset here, I like the Cardinals to defend home turf against the Hoosiers in a close one.
Howard at Eastern Michigan - Eastern Michigan - Its sad that I nearly picked the Fighting Sid Rib's in this one.
Army at Northern Illinois - Northern Illinois - Army is no joke, but NIU is probably the best team in the MAC, they win at home.
Ohio at New Mexico State - Ohio - Ohio's been one of the better MAC teams of recent, and NM State is bad, I'm taking the Bobcats away.

24 - S**T! Forgot to do this ... I guess that's what happens when you're in the workforce everyday instead of in the classroom. Seven years of studying later ...
If you want to take point on this in 2011, feel free. If not, I can do it again but no guarantees I won't forget. So thanks for getting this started! AZZ wouldn't be the same each week in football season without the MAC picks.

Annnnd the picks.

Villanova vs Temple
Villanova. I really don't see Steve Adazzio doing anything good with Temple.

South Carolina State at Central Michigan
CMU. Don't see them blowing this one.

New Hampshire at Toledo
UT. No contest.

Bowling Green at Idaho
BG. Defense takes over the game, offense is efficient. It's a good close game until BG D takes it over in the fourth.

Miami at #21 Missouri
Missouri. I'm feeling Mizzou to have a really good year this year.

Akron at #18 Ohio State
Ohio State. If Akron scores at all it'll surprise me.

Kent State at #2 Alabama
Alabama. Kent's D line is fantastic but they'll still get run over.

Western Michigan at Michigan
Michigan. Brady Hoke era starts off right for the Maize and Blue. Michigan does nothing tricky on offense and keeps what Denard will be doing in the pro set under wraps until Notre Dame.

Buffalo at Pittsburgh
Pitt. They've got a new coach and they'll be zipping the ball all over the place. UB is out of this one after the first half.

Indiana at Ball State
Indiana. Call me crazy, but IU has a chance with the new coach to get out of the Big 10 cellar in the coming years.

Howard at Eastern Michigan
EMU. Talent level between these two is not that far off.

Army at Northern Illinois
NIU. NIU's defense has 9 new starters, but they're very talented. Offensively they will be among the best in the country again.

Ohio at New Mexico State
Ohio. They're my pick to win the east this year and New Mexico State is my pick for worst FBS team.
MarkL has spoken.
You may all now return to your daily lives.

Sorry that it wasn't clear, but this ...
Bowling Green at Idaho - 9pm
I hate picking BG games, but my dad always taught me to bet against your favorite team.
means I'm picking Idaho.

Add reading comprehension to the list of skills you might want to address.

Temple- I think that they come out of the gate strong, especially the defense.
CMU- Just a hunch.
slUT- If they lose this one it would be a long season, but they won't.
BG- Week 1 is usually a good week for BG, hardly anyone is injured.
Mizzou- Miami will hang for a half.
OSU- The OSU players have plans to go out for free dinner and drinks afterwards.
Bama- Kent may be playing the best team money can buy in college football.
UM- Just a hunch.
Pitt
IU
EMU- They can't be that bad?
NIU- They show Kill what he left behind, the best team in the MAC.
Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach PE.

dapollak ... that's what I think folks underestimate about Temple. I'm not convinced their offense is at the top fo the MAC, but I believe they have the skills defensively to stay in most every game.

Hey birdman, if you're so smart about college football, you really should play. Just imagine how much you'd infuriate the rest of the board if you were in 1st place? Cmonnowuknouwanna!
