Why Saturday's game is important

I wrote a piece for this site in 2003 and the core message is really applicable for this weekend's game.

The piece was based on a game against SE Missouri State to be played on September 11, 2003. In a nutshell, the message was that on the anniversary of the attacks, we could show the terrorists they haven't won by simply returning our lives. And if you don't live on the East Coast, it's tough to understand just how hard that can be sometimes.

Here we are on the 10th anniversary. We're bogged down in two wars, Osama bin Laden is dead and we're hearing chatter of a "credible threat" by terrorists to mark that anniversary. Those things aren't important - it's how we respond that's important.

So my response is that I'm going to travel several hundred miles this weekend. That's what Americans do - we drive places. I'm going to spend money. Yes, we're Americans and we spend money on non-necessities, even in tough economic times. And I'm going to have an absolute blast hanging out with friends and watching a football game with my son.

That's America and that's why this weekend is important.

East Coast? How about Oklahoma? Denver? I'm guessing the good folks of those cities and others away from the East Coast where terrorist attacks have taken place give occasional thought to this on the anniversaries of the Murtaugh bombing or the Columbine shootings. Granted, I don't sit and fret that Toledo might come under attack-(leaving it as is might be an even greater punishment, eh?) but terrorism is hardly an East Coast phenomenon.

Good stuff 87. In other words, don't live your life in fear of what "may" happen. It wastes energy. Live it to the fullest each day no matter what.

Have a great time and stop by the Freak nest on the way back if ya wish...

GO FALCONS

The game and the half-time show set a nice tone for the anniversary. Also, those ROTC folks should be good and sore tomorrow. We should see them clearing those push-ups a little easier next week. With pain, there will be gains.
Well done!
Goooooooooo FALCONS!
