I'm wondering if it was really necessary for the University to hire in an outside security firm to manage the football crowd? The security checkpoint at the Stroh Show seemed unnecessary (and was ineffective), and having the security people guard the gates to the field after the game seemed REALLY impersonal. The policy has always been to welcome fans onto the field after the game was over, but the guards didn't allow anyone on until after the band began playing the Alma Mater.

I'm not trying to be a whining complainer, but I don't recall us ever having major issues with fan safety / security before. Do we really need to be spending money to have a bunch of teenagers check bags for booze and hamper our post-game traditions?

10th anniversary of 9/11. As we know, you can never be too cautious. Didn't bother me in the least.

You think security at the Doyt was bad? Lucky you were not in East Landing. They shelled out over 175k for security expenses, no infants under 2 permitted (personally I don't think a child under 3 should be at a football game, due to large crowds and loud noises), no bags allowed, not even camera bags or purses. Thousands of people had to be patted down. Surprised they didn't have metal detectors at the stadium.

The "Security" was actually the Blufton Baseball team, lol.

They get paid to work the event and then they donate all of the proceeds to a charity. I imagine its a write off for both schools. That's how it was explained to me by the baseball team's coach.

I talked with the coach for a good hour last night, who was on the visitors sideline. We ended up knowing each other from him visiting my high school way back when my baseball team was good. Small world.

My only gripe is that they told us "no outside food" which I understand, "including candy." Wait, no Tootsie Rolls?

Let's just say, covert mission accomplished.

Hell, I stepped right on the edge of the sideline boundary line for team staff and media members and I got yelled at.

Wait so nobody was allowed onto the field following the game's conclusion? If that was the case, then that BLOWS! Gathering with the players and band singing the alma mater, plus whatever postgame festivities arise afterward (throwing passes, kicking field goals, etc) is one of the great things about football in Bowling Green that you don't have at many other places. Hopefully this is something that continues in the future!

No, no, no... that's not what I was talking about.

During the game, you can't cross the dotted line around the field. Typically, you can stand on it but you can't go past it. It's an NCAA thing.

I stepped on the edge of the line during the game, not after.

With coaches and players, of both teams, and game officials (no, not just the refs) still possibly on the field, I think it's the smart thing to do in this day and age regardless of 9/11.

I think that's definitely the case at most schools, but we've never had an issue that I'm aware of where a fan got on the field after the game and harassed officials or opposing players... We have a great tradition here of having classy football fans and a family atmosphere surrounding our games, so I guess it never really crossed my mind as a potential issue.

As to the Bluffton thing: I'll accept that some of the kids were from the Bluffton baseball team, but there's NO WAY they provided the entire staff (especially all the girls ). I also understand the heightened security thing, but man did they stick in my craw...

Sounds like we hired the Toledo ushers. Since UT played at O$U on Saturday, it's a good bet.

My family came in on the East side and had no issues bringing in unopened sodas. FortWayneFalcon on the otherhand had to dispose of his food and snacks on the West side. On a side note, I miss the days of BG taking care of the concessions and getting 2 dogs and a soda for $5. Now you get a $4 pretzel, really, might as well have Panera start doing concessions.

My wife and I were sitting in the lucky pizza row, so we got our free slice of pizza. That's all I got at the concessions, especially since I could probably eat at Fifth Third Field in Toledo for cheaper. What happened witht he prices?

I've been battling a cold/sinus infection for a few days, so I had a bottle of water with me. I had to chug it before I could go in the game. I figured the security was due to 9/11, but if this continues throughout the season I'll be pissed. It caused quite an unfriendly atmosphere, especially with post-game activities.

That $10 Meijer card buys LOTS of Tootsie Rolls for the ride home!!!

One of the reasons we grill and pig out in the tailgates...I can down 3 brats, chips and whatever else and be pretty stuffed going in the gate. The prices are in the osu range now. It takes me almost a tank of gas to get there and back ($50 if I'm in the Honda, $65 or $70 in the Ford) so I try to spend as little as possible on the inside. A game program most of the time and that's it.
