Sentinel Article on Gregg Brandon

Nice comment from GB:
“One of the things that I wish I had done when I left was have the opportunity to just tell everybody publicly what a great experience it was to be the head coach at Bowling Green,” Brandon said in a telephone interview on Monday.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I don't disagree it was time to move on but I am still a fan of Gregg Brandon.

Me too. I thought he was a nice guy. Hated to see that his time here ended like it did. I'm glad he's doing well in the new job....just hope WE do better this weekend! :-D

While I have nothing personal against Brandon, he did leave this program in a huge hole with the poor APR and loss of scholarships. If not for that, Clawson wouldn't have had to go through the major rebuild that's now happening.

I'd still take him in a heart beat as an offensive coordinator...just not a head coach.

Likewise, I would feel much better right now if we were facing GB the head coach and not the OC.

Too bad GB the head coach was 44-30 here at BG. I don't want to face that GB either.

I always liked Coach B even though the program had issues his last 3 years. I sent him an email a few days ago wishing him the best except for this weekend. LOL. He replied a day later and was cool.

GB is a good guy...the program certainly had some success under him. It's a shame that his tenure here ended the way it did...but it did. I wouldn't suprise me one bit to see him getting a HC gig somewhere else someday because he's a talented coach with a really good grasp of the spread.

GB was always great about that sort of thing and I appreciated it. I routinely sent him e-mails during his tenure and he always replied, even if it was just "Thanks for the support!"

I never questioned his ability to coach, it was his recruiting that I questioned. Too many bad eggs (academically and socially) in his last several classes led to sub-par records.

Yeah...that's pretty much the crux of the issue. Too many early departures, too many off field issues....

I hold nothing personal against GB, I met him my junior year at Anderson Arena during a basketball game and he was very nice to me. That being said, as Flip mentioned, he left this program in disarray and only now is Clawson putting it back together. He's a great football mind who is best as a coordinator and not a head coach. I wish him the best this season and beyond, except for Saturday!

That was Greg Brandon head coach working with Urban Meyers talent for first couple of years. Don't kid yourself.
