Pick the MAC, week 3!
Pick the MAC, week 3!
No perfects this week. Nobody picked correctly in both Kent's and NIU's games. In fact those two burnt most everybody, me included. And Byron's still leading the way.

I guessed Toledo would still be scoreless against Ohio State and ... suffice it to say ... I was a little off. Temple thumped Akron, Kent was no good, Ball State gave up a touchdown on the opening kickoff (and they were the receiving team on the play!), NIU's defense partied too late Friday night, and Eastern Michigan is probably the weakest 2-0 team ever.
And now the schedule. There's a couple more MAC games, some Big 10 matchups, and there's the Friday night game with Boise State.
Friday
Boise State at Toledo, 8:00 pm
Saturday
Central Michigan at Western Michigan, 12:00 pm
Eastern Michigan at Michigan, 12:00 pm
Penn State at Temple, 12:00 pm
Wyoming at Bowling Green, 12:00 pm
Akron at Cincinnati, 3:30 pm
Miami (OH) at Minnesota, 3:30 pm
Wisconsin at Northern Illinois at Soldier Field, 3:30 pm
Buffalo at Ball State, 7:00 pm
Marshall at Ohio, 7:00 pm
Kent State at Kansas State, 7:00 pm
And ... my picks.
Boise State. Big, big blowout win for the Broncos. BSU is a legitemate national title contender. Toledo plays inspired but has no ability to keep up.
WMU. CMU looks disfuntional and kept it close last week by playing a very disfunctional Kentucky team. WMU is pretty good.
Michigan. Maybe this should be pick the point spread instead of pick the winner.
Penn State. Temple's good, but they won't be able to hang with a Penn State team that's way better than they looked last week.
Bowling Green. Wyoming is a similar, young team, but BG is playing with a physicality that I haven't seen in years. Wyoming won't be able to win the battles on either line and certainly won't be able to cover all our receivers.
Cincinnati. No contest.
Minnesota. Miami's only played one game so I know less about them than the rest of the teams. Minnesota isn't anything great but I'll take the safe bet and pick the Big Ten team.
Wisconsin. I want NIU to win, I really do, but their defense has got no chance of stopping the Wisconsin attack. NIU will score points but not enough to make up for their d.
Buffalo. Hard telling much about either team. I'll take Buffalo because I don't put too much stock into Ball State's win over Indiana. I think most of the MAC could beat Indiana.
Ohio. OU's still the team to beat in the east.
KSU. KSU is just better than KSU. KSU's run defense is good, but KSU's offense won't have too much of a problem. Ok, ok, I'm taking Kansas State.

Re: Pick the MAC, week 3!
Boise State: Toledo lost their chance for me to root for them. Go Broncos!
Western Michigan: Just a few years ago, I would be insane to pick this way.
Michigan: Yes, Eastern is undefeated, but they would have had a tougher game if nobody showed up. Oh wait, that almost happened.
Penn State: Penn State is just too good for Temple.
Bowling Green: Can I really pick against us? NO!
Cincinnati: What's sad is I would pick Eastern Michigan to beat Akron, so Cincinnati definitely gets my vote.
Miami (OH): This will be the MAC shocker for the week. My prediction.
Wisconsin: This will not be the MAC shocker.
Ball State: Balls Tate should be able to win this one, but between these two teams I hope somebody doesn't get hit with the pillow too hard.
Ohio: I just have to pick against the Thundering Turds.
Kansas State: Kent State is just annoying. I have to go with Kansas State.

Re: Pick the MAC, week 3!
Looking pretty good right now at 21-3, but this week is where some of the trickier in-conference games begin, also a few games between MAC teams against lower tier BCS opposition. Here are my choices.
Friday
Boise State at Toledo, 8:00 pm - Boise State - Sorry Toledo, but you're not beating the Broncos. You could be one of the best 1-2 teams in the country though.
Saturday
Central Michigan at Western Michigan, 12:00 pm - Western Michigan - I'm not really impressed with CMU, and though I really, really hate WMU, they win this one. (wtf is this game a conference opener, thought this was a big rivalry??)
Eastern Michigan at Michigan, 12:00 pm - Michigan - This one will be a slaughter. Not exactly a bold prediction, but EMU won't win another game unless they face Akron this year.
Penn State at Temple, 12:00 pm - Temple - Can't really call this an upset either, I like Temple at home against a mediocre Penn State team, they'll start getting AP/ESPN poll votes after this one.
Wyoming at Bowling Green, 12:00 pm - Bowling Green - BGSU's offense continues its strong start while GB still doesn't know how to score in the red zone.
Akron at Cincinnati, 3:30 pm - Cincinnati - Do I really need to explain why? Bearcats big.
Miami (OH) at Minnesota, 3:30 pm - Miami - Not really an upset, the Redhawks could've beaten Missouri without some red zone issues, and the Gophers are terrible.
Wisconsin at Northern Illinois at Soldier Field, 3:30 pm - Wisconsin - That Wisconsin O-Line is bigger than most NFL teams, and will maul the NIU defense.
Buffalo at Ball State, 7:00 pm - Ball State - Not really sure about either of these teams yet, so I'm giving the Cardinals the benefit of the doubt at home.
Marshall at Ohio, 7:00 pm - Ohio - The Bobcats might still be very strong, and Marshall's hurt by suspensions and other issues so I like Ohio.
Kent State at Kansas State, 7:00 pm - Kansas State - Kent was a dud last week, and while K-State struggled against a I-AA in week 1, they're still better than the Golden Flashes.
Friday
Boise State at Toledo, 8:00 pm - Boise State - Sorry Toledo, but you're not beating the Broncos. You could be one of the best 1-2 teams in the country though.

Boise State at Toledo: Blowout in the Glass Bowl
Central Michigan at Western Michigan: Chips are sliding
Eastern Michigan at Michigan: Hurons undefeated season spoiled
Penn State at Temple: I'm with Freak, don't sleep on Temple. They have a very physical defense and a powerful running game. I see this game being tight well into the fourth quarter.
Wyoming at Bowling Green: Brandon will get the Cowboys into the end zone, but we'll have just enough to win a very close game.
Akron at Cincinnati: When's the last time a I-A school opened the season with three straight TD-less games?
Miami (OH) at Minnesota: Could be an upset, but ...
Wisconsin at Northern Illinois at Soldier Field: Huskies will hang for a bit, but Badgers will wear out that shaky NIU defense.
Buffalo at Ball State: Expecting Cards to defend the home turf
Marshall at Ohio: Maybe wishful thinking, but I see the Snobkitties falling short of all the lofty expectations this year.
Kent State at Kansas State: Kent gets rolled.

Re: Pick the MAC, week 3!
Boise State at Toledo - The Broncos come in and take away any confidence Toledo had built up down in Columbus. Boise State. Big.
Central Michigan at Western Michigan - Central is down, Western isn't that good but it's in K-Zoo. I pick Western.
Eastern Michigan at Michigan - I had a really tough time deciding on this one...but not really. Michigan by 50.
Penn State at Temple - Temple is good, but not good enough to take down the Coke Bottle Glasses - Penn State wins.
Wyoming at Bowling Green - The noon start doesn't hurt Wyoming as much as the Falcons do. BG comes out firing on all cylinders, puts the Family Weekend curse to bed once and for all and whoops on Gregg Brandon and the 'Pokes. BG by a bunch.
Akron at Cincinnati - Akron is bad. Cincinnati isn't great but they are waaaaay better than the Zips. W to Cinci.
Miami (OH) at Minnesota - Tough matchup for the Redhawks. They could pull it out but I think Minnesota gets the win.
Wisconsin at Northern Illinois - NIU is a good team but not as good as the Badgers who have a good shot at winning the Big10/11/12. Wisky Wins.
Buffalo at Ball State - This game could really be a coin flip but I think the Cardinals get the victory.
Marshall at Ohio - I hate picking Marshall at any time whatsoever. But I also want to be right. My hands are tied. Marshall
Kent State at Kansas State - Kent lost to a 1-AA team last week. No way they beat Kansas State.
Central Michigan at Western Michigan - Central is down, Western isn't that good but it's in K-Zoo. I pick Western.
