Three Bowling Green State University students – Nicholas McKnight, Darryl Lynch and Jerry Gates – were issued misdemeanor citations for criminal trespassing by BGSU Police Thursday night for being in a residence hall unescorted. The three students are members of the BGSU football team.
The incident is still under investigation. All three men will be going through the University’s student conduct process.
Based on the information available, University Athletics has suspended McKnight indefinitely from the football program for multiple violations of team rules. Lynch and Gates will also face discipline from the team.

Well that's not good. Hoping for the best case scenario in all this and of course for all the details to surface.

I just received the Breaking News from WTOL 11 on my phone as well.
I GUESS WE NEED TO STAY IN HOTELS TWO NIGHTS PRIOR TO A GAME.

Wow, criminal trespassing is the charge for that? Interesting.

Well...this sucks. The "unescorted' thing is a bit odd...what does that mean, exactly? We're they just roaming the halls or were they looking for someone in particular? And yeah..."criminal tresspassing"?

I agree with Flip and Tom. seems like a strange charge. different time, but I was "unescorted" a lot at my time at BG in the early 90's. Is there something more to this?

There was never such a thing when I lived in the dorms, my only guess is that they were let into a residence hall without checking in the lobby area. I know there were always issues with students letting others in that way which may be the case here.

Criminal trespassing for being in a dormitory "unescorted"? That's garbage.
They were probably going to see some people in the dormitory, and they didn't check in, because somebody let them through the door. Better question is how did the police ever get involved? This happens every single day in every dorm on the BGSU campus.

My guess is that after a certain hour you can't be in a dorm unless you are escorted by a resident.

^ That's the rule. I'd be willing to bet that almost everyone has been in a dorm unescorted after hours though.
Two situations here: 1. they did something else (maybe the graffiti incident?) and got charged for misdemeanor trespassing or 2. they were in one of the new residence halls where the rules are more strictly enforced.
Hope this gets straightened out and doesn't happen again.

And when I say "unescorted" I really mean they could have been let in by someone through a door so they weren't officially brought in through the front desk. That's considered entering "unescorted."

Agreed. Myself and everyone I went to college with was unescorted at one time or another in a dorm.
