Pick the MAC, week 4!
Pick the MAC, week 4!
Sorry this is a bit late. Hectic week, so I'm writing this pre-coffee this morning. So ... if there's any innaccuracies, let me know and I'll fix it ASAP.

And now the schedule. All 13 teams play, and there's three Big 10 matchups, along with three Big East teams and an ACC team.
Saturday
Eastern Michigan at Penn State, 12:00 pm
Central Michigan at Michigan State, 12:00 pm
Toledo at Syracuse, 12:00 pm
Temple at Maryland, 12:30 pm
Bowling Green at Miami, 1:00 pm
Virginia Military at Akron, 2:00 pm
Army at Ball State, 2:00 pm
Ohio at Rutgers, 2:00 pm
Cal Poly at Northern Illinois, 3:30 pm
South Alabama at Kent State, 3:30 pm
Western Michigan at Illinois, 3:30 pm
Connecticut at Buffalo, 6:00 pm
And .... my picks
Penn State. No contest.
Michigan State. MSU takes out frustration of last week on CMU. Sucks to be them.
Syracuse. Toledo plays a bunch of weak BCS teams and pulls one win each year of these, but I believe that trend ends this year. Cuse in a two possession win.
Maryland. I'd like to pick Temple. They look darn good. However, Penn State's offense has been pretty bland so far, and Maryland has been far more exciting. I think their offense takes care of business against an excellent Temple d and gets the win.
Bowling Green. After what happened last week, I see a VERY focused BG team coming onto the field in Oxford. Miami is absolutely desperate for a win as they have been in the thick of their last two games, but they will have to wait another week for that win. BG in a two possession win.
Akron. I would pick many 1AA teams to beat Akron, but not VMI. This is the national pillowfight of the week. Maybe we should instead predict the attendance for this game.
Army. Ball State has surprised me so far. However, that triple option offense is very tough to stop if you only have a week to prepare for it. Army in a good win.
Ohio. Rutgers has not been the same Big East contender that they had been from 06 - 09, and Ohio is still the team to beat in the east. Ohio in a big win that starts opening eyes about this team.
Northern Illinois. I always will respect Cal Poly greatly because of the 1960 game, plane crash, and 1961 Mercy Bowl. That's a piece of BG history that I wish more people knew about because it is a very touching story. In 2011, though, NIU is going to absolutely dominate.
Kent State. I still don't know how good Kent is or can be. I guess we won't know until conference play.
Illinois. WMU can certainly win this game, but I don't think they will. Last time these two played was in 2008 and that win was an instant classic for WMU, but this time their defense won't hold up.
Connecticut. I don't know how good Connecticut is so far, and Buffalo has been hard to read. But, I think UConn is just more talented top to bottom and will win.
Good luck, and Go Falcons!

Re: Pick the MAC, week 4!
Penn State: They will easily beat EMU.
Michigan State: MSU will take care of business against a pretty poor CMU team.
Toledo: I believe that Toledo is good enough to win this game, so I'm going out on a limb and picking them.
Temple: They have the talent. Now, win one for the MAC.
Bowling Green: I'm picking BG because they're my team. However, I'm concerned I may get this one wrong.
Virginia Military: Akron is terrible. They will lost this game as well.
Ball State: Army does run the triple option, but not as well as Navy or Air Force. Ball State can beat Army.
Ohio: I think they're the real deal.
Northern Illinois: They are even more the real deal.
Kent State: At least Kent will beat the 1AA team they play, unlike Akron.
Western Michigan: I see WMU beating Illinois. Illinois isn't that good, to be quite honest.
Connecticut: Buffalo won't be able to pull this one off.

Re: Pick the MAC, week 4!
Week 4 picks:
Saturday
Eastern Michigan at Penn State - Penn State - EMU is the weakest 2-(insert # of losses here) team in history. PSU romps.
Central Michigan at Michigan State - Michigan State - CMU just isn't very good. Spartans big.
Toledo at Syracuse, 12:00 pm - Toledo - Syracuse isn't very good. I got stung on some MAC vs lower/middle BCS games last week, and hope that the Rockets can turn my luck around on these.
Temple at Maryland, 12:30 pm - Maryland - I thought about an upset, but if Temple couldn't beat Penn State at home, I think they'll have a hard time beating Maryland.
Bowling Green at Miami, 1:00 pm - Miami - I don't know why, I just don't have a good feeling about this game. Miami wins comfortably.
Virginia Military at Akron, 2:00 pm - Akron - Akron can't really lose to VMI...can they?
Army at Ball State, 2:00 pm - Ball State - The Cardinals seem to be playing well enough, so I like them to defeat Army.
Ohio at Rutgers, 2:00 pm - Ohio - The Bobcats are playing well and quite frankly, Rutgers stinks. Bobcats by 2 scores.
Cal Poly at Northern Illinois, 3:30 pm - Northern Illinois - NIU has to be still steaming about that defeat at Kansas on the final play.
South Alabama at Kent State, 3:30 pm - Kent State - KSU is really, really bad this year. I think they are still better than SA though.
Western Michigan at Illinois, 3:30 pm - Illinois - I still think the Broncos are relatively overrated. Illinois big.
Connecticut at Buffalo, 6:00 pm - Connecticut - This might be the toughest game of the week to call, as much as I want to go with the Bulls, I just don't see them making the plays late to win. UConn by a score.

Re: Pick the MAC, week 4!
Eastern Michigan at Penn State: Lions played hard this week. Blowout.
Central Michigan at Michigan State: would love the Chips in an upset, but not this year.
Toledo at Syracuse: Rockets put another BCS Conference team notch on their belt.
Temple at Maryland: Another MAC team pulls the upset. Temple D is too tough and Pierce will wear down the Terps.
Bowling Green at Miami: I hate Miami
Virginia Military at Akron: If the Zips blow this one, they will go 0-fer.
Army at Ball State: It'll come down to a big turnover. I say the Black Knights protect the ball.
Ohio at Rutgers: Close for the Snobkitties, but no cigar.
Cal Poly at Northern Illinois: NIU will play the entire roster.
South Alabama at Kent State: Solid win for the Flashes.
Western Michigan at Illinois: Don't think the Broncos have enough to win this one.
Connecticut at Buffalo: Good test for the Bulls.

Re: Pick the MAC, week 4!
Penn St. - The tackling dummies will put up a better fight this week.
MSU- Five years ago and I would have picked CMU.
slUT- The ACC will be getting the worst team in the Big East.
Maryland- A better than advertised team in the Terps.
BG- My homer pick of the week.
Akron- I picked this one based on a coin toss.
Ball St.- Army is just bad.
Rutgers- Wow the Big East sucks.
NIU- They'll roll.
Kent St.- Will finally beat a team from Alabama.
Illini
UConn- I'll say it again, "The Big East sucks."
