OK, I have heard RUMOR about a BG-Akron conflict and that the league is trying to get it to simmer down before they schedule the two teams in football. Does anyone know the TRUTH?
If not, then at least make it an interesting story.

This came up a while back on the boards IIRC. I believe there was some recruiting violation by Akron, we were the whistleblowers, so the MAC office decided to give the two schools some "cooling off" time. At least that was the story that hit the boards. No telling if there's any truth whatsoever to that.
That being said, with the unbalanced divisions, each year in the east two sets of two teams won't play each other. Those same two sets won't play each other the next year. It is odd that in 08-09, the two sets were Temple-BG and Akron-Miami. Now the two sets are BG-Akron and Kent-Buffalo. You would think that they wouldn't want BG and Akron to miss any east games four years in a row, so maybe there's some validity to it. Of course, the two will only miss east games three years in a row, as UMass comes in next year and rebalances the divisions.

The only team you could possibly move besides BG would be the Redhawks, nobody else would make any kind of geographic sense. And given our close proximity with Ball State, Eastern Michigan, and of course, Toledo...we're definitely the logical choice. I don't like it any better than you do Freak, but I'm just not sure what to think.

I know...I'll fight it tooth and nail. Why not make UMass go to the West? They're the new team in the Conference. I know they'll throw the "But Temple and Buffalo are near us" argument. I just want BG to remain in the East. We don't have much history with Ball State, EMU, NIU.

FALCON FOOTBALL ROCKS!
Akron has gotten a ton of funding, building new facilities all over that city, but it seems that no matter what they do, outside of soccer, they can't seem to put it together!
and yes, I have also heard that there are some negative feelings between Akron and BG.
Why do they have to go East - West when doing divisions?
How about North and South, instead.
North
Buffalo
Mass
Temple
E. Mich
W. Mich
C. Mich
N. Illinois
South
BG
Akron
Kent
Miami
Ohio
Toledo
Ball St.
Seems perfectly fine to me. So the newbies have to travel a bit further? I like this setup much better than switching BG back and forth all the fricking time.
I'd like to see an entire realignment of divisions. Forget the Division by location thing and come up with actual division names. (We can do better than Leaders and Legends). I like the realignment that BGWriter has, with all of the Ohio teams in one division, and the East teams and Michigan teams in another division.
