More Thoughts on BGSU vs. WVU

Post by mc3022 »

Hey Guys, been reading the forum for a couple months now and just got signed up...great stuff from you all.

WVU will certainly be the best team that we play all year. The key to the game is going to be ball control and limiting the big plays.

Defense:
- Contain the Screens: Because of the lack of the running game by WVU, our defense is going to have to contain the quick screen game that WVU runs about once a series. Defense is going to have to be disciplined with their assignments and make tackles in open space.
- Get Pressure on the QB: I believe somebody mentioned it before, but Norfolk St. was successful when they were able to bring pressure and make their QB uncomfortable in the pocket - dialing up pressure will be key, but our D-line will also have to get to the QB when we drop back 7 in coverage

Offense:
- Ball Control: Running the ball and utilizing our short passing game is essential to hang around - We must chew up some clock and keep their offense off the field
- Contain the 335: The 335 always presents problems with pass protection. Our offensive line must identify the blitzing linebacker and give us time in the pocket
- Unleash our WR's: If we can create some formations or play schemes where we can get our WR's in space we will be successful - WVU has yet to see a team with as many playmakers on offense as we do.

I'm sure WVU will still be a little down after being dominated on the national stage. Hopefully we can surprise them 8-)

Welcome to the forums!! (go Tigers).

I think we can win...I don't know that we will, but it's possible. We need to get some pressure on the QB and our DB's simply cannot give up the big play and that asking a bunch becaue they're very young. They're as talented a group as I've seen here in a long time...but they're young
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

OK, I'll not be the first to say I'm hoping for a win, but some of your comments are a bit 'over the edge"... WVU has yet to see a team with as many playmakers on offense as BG? Seems like they saw a few of those types last week against LSU, didn't they?
Keys to a possible win= Limit turnovers!
Line play on both sides of ball
Keep Geno Smith at least minimally 'under control"....especially if he starts to run after pressure...seems like we've had a bit of a problem with QB scrambles in several games so far.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the trip to M-town...but weather looks shaky at best ....Cold...(can live with that)...but Wet too? Not good.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Yep your correct...LSU defiantly have those type of players and that might of been a reach to say they haven't players like we have before. However, LSU is a run first team controlling the clock and setting up play action to get their WR's open to stretch the field

BG will defiantly try to utilize our play makers in open space more than LSU did. As for defense...people in WVU don't realize that LSU defense was playing very conservative - Hope that we can get after Smith a bit more - He had alot of time to throw throughout the majority of that game.

Have fun in Morgantown!

Marshall brought a ton of pressure to try to make Smith uncomfortable. He just rushed around, bought time, then found receivers downfield. Just making him uncomfy isn't enough. Secondary will also need to blanket the receivers.

The D line and Baby Birds in the secondary are gonna have to play the game of their lives.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
