Blown chances, another home loss, another one-score defeat

Several trips inside the Toledo red zone including a couple inside the 10 and we get no points on them. I swear we're better at trying to pick up a third and seven than we are a third and one. That was huge, as was our inability to stop the run for the third consecutive week. BG is now 3-10 in one-score games under Clawson. We just can't find ways to win these games and until we do, we're going to continue to come up short in them. We have only won one home game against an FBS team in the last two seasons and are now on a 6-13 slump at home. Yes I know we're young, but year after year of doing the same thing doesn't translate into a turnaround just because your teams gets older the following season. We have got to fix these things now. We can continue to teach, but until they are learned and proven, we're going to be left waiting.

That said, congrats to Toledo. They earned it.

The playcalling is designed to fail. Samuel rips off a 30 yard run today and then its three straight passes? Schilz is inconsistent as always which compounds the offense's inability to move the ball. Clawson was also severely outcoached in the 2nd9th half and no adjustments were made to stop the run. After today's game, count me unimpressed and skeptical of him and the program moving forward.

We're just so young.....I mean we are young......did I mention we were young? That is all the TV guys talked about, which means that is all our coaches talked about in the production meeting before the game. Excuses.

Bottom line, Beckman is a way better coach than Clawson. We had the chance to get him but GC was impressed with an FCS tv broadcast where the commentators were praising Clawson. Real smart move. Toledo is banged up, played bad, and still should have won by 14. (They missed a blatant hold on Boo Boos return).

One last note...our uniforms are really ugly. The orange on the helmet doesn't match the orange on the jerseys and pants, and its just way too much orange. Brown looks so much better at least on one part of the uniform.

End rant....

Clawson wasn't out coached so much as BG out coached themselves.

The play calling inside the 5 on two different trips was pathetically bad. It seems to be a pattern with this coaching staff.

It's not like Toledo stopped BG from getting enough chances to score and win the game; it was BG's inept calls when they got there (red zone) that was the difference.

As for the shoddy tackling (again), I don't have an answer. BG apparently does not teach its defense to wrap up properly. All the kids mostly did was hit someone and bounce off of them; not even trying to wrap up and bring the player down.

A bad run defense is also becoming a BG tradition.

Honestly, if Clawson wants to keep this gig, he might want to think about replacing his two coordinators with some folks who can actually do the job well.
