Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions

I went off earlier and that is not normally my style, so I apologize. Just disappointed this team gives games away like they do, but my bitching about it doesn't benefit anyone on this board. I deleted the original post and apologize if I offended anyone. Sometimes I get too wrapped up into the game and forget that it's just a game. I was just frustrated because these games have become no fun to go to, but I guess that's just my opinion.

Gibby mentioned on the radio how the team lacks coming out and kicking butt. Its been a long time since BG football has blown out someone that matters. The team is a reflection of the coaching staff and I'd rather see Clawson getting his troops fired up on the sidelines rather than bitching at the refs.

I'd settle for a coaching staff that knows how to call plays inside the 5 yard line, and can teach players on the defense how to stop a running game (it's called tackling, guys).

Two trips inside the 5 and no points. If you watched the play calls, you know what the problem is. Hell, the whole world knows. I'm sure opposing defenses spend about 5 minutes the week before the BG game going over what BG does when it's inside the 10.

This is a COACHING problem, folks. Clawson is the man in charge. If his assistants aren't doing the job -- then HE is not doing the job.

Not that I expect any of this will change at any point in the near future. So, in the meantime, expect more poorly played games and excuses made that the team is too young. At least they can use that one this year; next year nobody will buy it, anymore.

This team is ....frustrating. They continuosly make the plays to put themselves in a position to win, but they lack the consistency to actually come through. During the Miami game someone here compared Schilz to Tony Romo...Romo is the classic play just well enough to lose QB....I'm beginning to wonder if Schilz indeed isn't that guy too.

I think we lost that "this is the Doyt and I'm going to bust you in the mouth" vibe in 2005 when Western, Akron and Toledo were able to come in and beat us. We've become downright hospitable.

So far as all the other stuff goes...i'd love to see us cut back on the promotional nonsense and canned music in favor of letting the band play more.

Now granted, I sit on the South 30 yard line on the west side, so I am closer to the visiting section that the BG Band, but it seemed like the Team Up North's band played a lot more, and was far louder than the Falcon Marching Band.
I normally let people go off [because that is so painfully commonplace on this "my ass aches" board but I need to interject here: You are completely wrong on this. UT band was pointed straight at you. OF COURSE they would sound louder.

The UT band played three notes the entire game. I was actually singing along with them, 'we play three notes...." It was funny until the second quarter when it became sad.

Remember that the FMB today had the alumni band also in their own section of stands playing. That may be where your confusion comes in. Alumni Band: 100 players. Regular band: nearly 250+

BG's band was BY FAR the superior band in that stadium today. They played where and when appropriate. You didn't hear it because, I imagine, you needed more to complain about.....like just about everyone else on this board.

I honestly didn't think the tackling was as bad as it has been in the past. It's vastly improved over last year and definitely over the year before that.

BG did everything they could to lose the game. I doubt that was intentional but there were a great many mistakes which led to the short score for the home team today.

Play calling was not my favorite thing of the game. Don't run a stunt when you have two changes at getting a foot. Let your 6'3" quarterback fall forward. Let your center smash the guy in front of him.

No calls. There were tons on both sides. We got away with one on the fumble called incomplete [thank you, Santa.] I did see more holding on receivers by UT defense and they really liked holding receivers on bubble screens [they were rather deceptive with their holding but it was there and obvious.] We were doing our fair share when Shilz was getting happy feet.

Game experience. I didn't mind it. Would everyone rather NOT having corporate sponsors? You likely would, then you could bitch about NOT having them. In today's marketing world, business are wanting [and needing] to leverage more from their advertising budget. I guess I was looking at the goofy stuff as a necessary evil.

BG lost the game, but I know I had a good time.

Here is a huge positive. The band, dancers, cheerleaders, and spirit organizations were a fantastic part of the overall experience for me today. They are GREAT kids, had fun, and are really good. The dance team is well improved over last year and the band is one of the largest in the MAC.

Most times we miss the good stuff with the negative. But then, most people on this board seem only to be happy when they are miserable.

I didn't figure that we would compete, but we did.
I'm happy that I made the 1 1/2 hr. drive when I had said all week that it wasn't going to be worth it.
The student section held together untill the end. Great!
It's not over baby!

The game looked completely different on TV than the comments posted here. We looked fired up, hitting hard, and the tackling was much better. Not great but surpisingly better than I expected. I didn't like taking a freshman RB and going up the middle so often, but overall the game has me looking foward to next week and next year.

The stadium & crowd looked good and the interview of Jack Harbaugh at half time was one of the best interviews at BG.

Yeah, I thought BG came out with a lot of energy and played hard all day.

Just made to many mistakes and lost to a better team.

Very frustrating game today.

Need to make a yard inside the five. Twice. Don't "wait and look" in the wildcat. Hit it up in there and get the yard. Get ONE yard.

Need to make a straight away 24 yard FG even in Hurricane Irene. Make it.

Need to intercept a ball when the guy throws a prayer. Pick it and go. Pick it. Momentum goes with it even if you just fall down with it.

Need to throw the ball on a line thru a gale when your special play call results in a freshman RB running uncovered 12 yards from the end zone. THROW the ball. Don't lob and hope. Throw it.

Eliminate stupid penalties- just the dumb ones. Keep arguing though Coach Clawson. When Kamar can't turn around in the end zone on a 20 yard route, it's called holding. Go ahead and argue and get the next call. Nice catch next play at the end of the half though Kamar.

Some other observations:

1. Our marching band show was very good. And nice job by the alumni band on the alma mater. We had more alum band members back than WVU for our HC. Thanks for coming back!

2. Our crowd- led as always by students- kept working hard for our team. And stayed and cheered despite some wind etc issues. 22,500- not bad considering the noon start. I am all about 3:30 and 7:30 when able. We don't control all that I realize

3. Postgame on field- can't go on when other team is there. Good move there (just ask Marshall/Miami folks). Most schools do not let fans on the field at all so I would say be thankful! I am. But did you see WHY there was a delay? UT players and coaches ran thru two fight song renditions and an alma mater, gathered in the end zone for a team photograph with the scoreboard in the background and then remained on the field some more. REMEMBER that. Next year when we win, shake hands, salute our team's fans and then get off the field. Show some respect. Won't see any from them.

4. Tremendous version of "Sandman" by the pre game band near the tents. Excellent job boys- Off to Never Never Land!

5. Stadium signage? Sell it all. It isn't 1985 with McClure or even 2002 with Urban. Wish it was every now and then but it never will be. Maximize revenue and involve partners. Manage it as best you can.

6. Freddie and Frieda- very very good today pre game, during the game and post game. Very good.

7. Thanks for coming back to Mileti etc classes of 61 and 71. Good turn out. And the parade was fun Friday.

8. Defense- fourth and fifth year players on field for us- Kevin Moore. One right? Offense- fourth and fifth year players on the field for us- B Bojicic, A Hodges and extra WR R Hutson. Three right? Wow. Three of Clawson's JCs in Kamar, Binky and special teamer Leacock are seniors. But FOUR guys from two recruiting classes? Can't be another team in the country w that roster. Not complaining. Not making excuses. Just saying. Wow. Again.

9. Our dance team is very good this year. Even in track suits in the wind.

10. Our schedule is wild- at Miami, at WVU, at Wester, UT, Temple- quite a stretch. What did we do to the Commish to draw our MAC opponents? Oh well. Gotta play the hand your dealt with the cards in your hand. So let's go Falcons- beat Temple!

11. I had fun this weekend. Had a few returning alums commenting on our new dining centers. Have you seen The Oaks? Stop in when able and eat.

12. How do our cheerleaders do certain stuff in a 35 mile MPH wind? I give them credit.

13. Boo Boo Gates is ridiculous. What a player! And our punter- he's good too. Didn't know he was so fleet a foot.

Wish we had won.

Go Falcons!

I have to say being in the "real" stands for the first time (albeit in Alumni Band) and actually being able to see more, I thought we played with energy the whole way. Some of the defensive players' reactions after a fantastic tackle were awesome - they were completely in the zone. Our defense is much improved. Offense still needs work.

We lost - it sucks; I'm not going to lie. Every BG fan wanted to win that game; but, the fact that we showed some moments of brilliance (IMO anyway) shows promise for the rest of the season. This team isn't done yet. Don't get down on them.

First time in a chairback seat on the home side rather than a bench on the visitor's side. Wish I could've gotten there earlier for the pre-game festivities.

Yeah, there were moments of frustration (particularly the entire first quarter), but one of the more exciting (IMO) games so far this year. I honestly thought we had a shot in h-e-double upside down 7's when Boo Boo ran that kickoff back late in the game.

Don't get down. At least you won 3 games this season. Just wait until next year...

I thought the Defense played hard for the most part...yeah the tackling was crummy at times but they played hard. It came down to not making plays when it mattered and that is a disturbing trend with Coach Clawson's team. We GOTTA find a way to turn that around. The crowd as awesome yesterday...and the students kicked ass. Too bad we couldn't find a way to put that one in the win column. Hate losing to ut but give them credit for making the plays in the fourth to find a way to win. All in all I thought it was a hard fought game between two bitter rivals.

I talked to former BG D line Coach Ward (coaches ut now) after the game. He thought BG played hard and told me "BG plays 100% harder than they did last year". I wish he was still coaching at BG.

BTW, found this in the Blade...UT has five seniors and two juniors on offense starting against a Falcon defense that has only one senior and two juniors. The Rocket defense has a whopping eight senior starters going up against a BG offense that has four seniors and two juniors. That was an interesting fact...
