Interesting. Wonder if our band could do this.

Comparing OU's band to a SWAC school band is a bit like comparing Justin Bieber to Lil' Wayne....Vanilla Ice to Public Enemy...Shakin' Stevens to Otis Redding...H2Oville to someone cool...

Just be sure and leave Glen Campbell out of this....

3 million people have watched it and it was discussed in Sports Illustrated.

But as far as bands that don't routinely haze their members with 2" by 4"s go, it's a marching band playing a Top 40 soccer mom song! Yay!

Meh, Sigh, LOL, OMG, Really?......

So the BGSU band is above being mentioned in Sports Illustrated and getting 3 million views on youtube. That is beneath them!

Wouldnt something like this fit what many on here desire in terms of having the band play instead of music?

No. That song is crap, and their band sounded like crap while playing it. I think that pretty much covered it.

Oh sure, the FMB could do that without a problem. But they wouldn't. And if they did, they would actually do some marching and it would sound a whole lot better.

This is an awesome thread. Elitists in the band. Should we start calling it THE Falcon Marching Band like OSU does?. I can tell you that I have been to many football and basketball games and never once noticed the quality of the band. I would have noticed this. And 3 million + other people also noticed it, and Sports Illustrated.....

Given the history between the school's bands...and the marked differences in style...and Im not shocked at all that OU's band is finding no love here

This is sort of like comparing The Gatlin Brothers and Gun N Roses!

Both make different types of music and appeal to different people!

Some of us like it all! ;)

+1

OU's band has never placed musicianship above the stupid dancing they do during halftime. Every time I see a video of theirs, I can't help but think as a music educator why quality musicianship is so difficult. I've heard high school bands that sound better - way better.
BGSU's band is geared toward teaching musicianship, marching capability, and preparing the music education students to lead a marching band. OU's band just does the "park and blow" as we call it way too often.
Our band is taught quality playing over blasting the people out of their seats with sound. Overplaying your instrument is one of the most disgusting sounds I can think of and OU seems to think it sounds good.

If BG's band ever sounded like that, I would be appalled.
