I know this has nothing at all to do with wins or losses, but after watching our game against NIU on TV the other night and noticing this in years past (especially for games later in the season on weeknights), it would sure make us “look better” to have the cameras on the east side of the stadium and shooting west rather than the way we have them now. It’s no secret that most people sit on the west side (including our students and most season ticket holders) and unless we have a crowd of about 18,000 or more, most of those seats on the east side are empty. It looks awful on TV. If we have 15,000 or less for a game, I would guess that about 80% or so sit on the west side. What’s more, the west side also has our press box and stadium club and some banners, signage, etc.
Yes, I know the press box and media is on the west side, and that the production trucks are parked on that side, and that there are areas for the camera over there and that even the logo at midfield faces the west side. But it would greatly enhance the way our crowds look on TV for some of these games if we actually showed the west grandstand instead of the east so when we have a crown of about 13,000 that it doesn’t look like 1,500.

Here's an idea. Maybe people could actually show up and we wouldn't have to worry about it.
Re: Camera view for TV games at BG
Great idea, but there's one BiG problem, we aren't winning. If we lose to Ohio in our home finale, it will mark our third losing season in the last four years. We are an embarrassing 7-14 (33%) at home since 2008!!! That is unacceptable!!!camkru9701 wrote:Here's an idea. Maybe people could actually show up and we wouldn't have to worry about it.

I agree, can't argue with that.

If you back it up to the start of the 2005 season, BG is 14-22 at home from 2005-2011. For an explanation of our problems and woes since the early part of the Brandon era, you need not look any further than that.

If I'm not mistaken all the media hookups are in the west boxes, not the east.

The simpliest reason might be that way back when we actually played DAY games, the sun is out of the west/southwest, thus the sun is at the cameras back!

Re: Camera view for TV games at BG
I use to be a cameraman for BCSN (insert some sort of joke or pity comment) and indeed, everything media-wise is located on those west stands. I'm not 100% sure there's enough cable in the trucks to go the other side with 4 cameras in use. 2 cameras have to be the high cam, on the 30 yard lines, one handheld, and one at the goal post. Audio jacks and monitors had to plug into a camera, and the nearest camera would have to be a goal post camera...once again, I don't think BCSN has 2 snakes (audio cables) to run that far. Set up at BG was always the worst, along with Hockey. Early call time to work for those games, and they pay by the event, not hour so no overtime unless it's double OT in the game.
Also, shooting west for some of those games might have the sun hitting the lens...I honestly can't say for sure but shooting east clearly avoids it.

It might help just a bit to if we played all our home games on the typical day for college football games (Saturdays), are you listening MAC officials..... (sadly I know they aren't)BGSU33 wrote:Great idea, but there's one BiG problem, we aren't winning. If we lose to Ohio in our home finale, it will mark our third losing season in the last four years.
