Saw some talk on twitter that Beckman was a possible candidate for the Illini...with Dantonio and Hoke locking down Michigan and meyer likely coming in at OSU, I'd rather take a hot poker through the eye than try to resurrect the Illini...

I agree with you Flip, but I think the PSU job is even worse. Entering into a disaster area, unrealistically high expectations, and following the footsteps of a legendary coach.
With the same things working against you that you just mentioned for the Illini.
I cannot imagine anybody wanting that PSU job...

Gill was guaranteed $2 million per year and will receive a $6 million buyout. So ... let's see ...
Gill: No longer coaching at the worst team in the Big 12, no longer coaching in an unstable conference, has the ability to re-make his image as a coordinator, earns $6 million in the process.
KU: No longer has to say they have Turner Gill as a head coach, no longer has to endure through him destroying their image to recruits, gets to hire somebody new and fresh and not Turner Gill, down $6 million.
Not really sure which one is better off ...

Curious if KU will hear all the "racism" claims in firing Gill that Notre Dame had when firing Willingham. I'll bet not.

Memphis and UAB have also fired their coaches. Not sure if any MAC coaches would really consider a move to C-USA enough of a step-up to move to one of these schools.

I wouldn't touch UAB. The university of Alabama will never allow that school to be anything but a doormat.

Rick Neuheisel is also out at UCLA according to multiple reports on Twitter.

Lots of empty spots all of a sudden. Will be interesting to see if there is an impact on the MAC.
Warthog - good question. A lot will depend, I think, on if any current MAC coaches get a sniff from a BCS school (even a lower-tier one like Kansas). If not, a C-USA job with a fatter paycheck may not be a bad move.

I'd take the Penn State job...I'll take half of what Paterno was making too.

Memphis has been awful since BG beat them in the GMAC Bowl...and their facilities are some of the worst in the FBS.

RN was only 21-28 in his 4 years at UCLA...and losing 50-0 last week to his arch-rival drove the nail in his coffin.
