Has there been a stronger staff in the MAC since?

Has there been a coach anywhere near as good in the MAC in 20 years?

Bob Pruitt at Marshall was ok, but faded fast. Frank Lauterburg at Toledo during the late 60s early 70s had the famous MAC streak and had his team in the top 15 at one point. He too faded at Iowa soon after. Don Nehlan at BG was damn good but they fired him -- still can' figure that one out. Didn't surprise me WVU ran it up on BG this year - it was Don Nehlan Day.
Denny Stolz had one great year capped by the 51-7 fiasco in Fresno. Gary Blackney could do no wrong until he lost his wind.

One of our posters, it might have been '61, talked about the Nehlen firing once. As I recall, BG just couldn't seem to get over the hump, in particular beating Miami.

Stolz put together a pretty amazing team, that's for sure. Outside of covering volleyball, covering that football team was the best.

Hey " noah's dad",
You've got a good memory. Nehlen's teams were akways good, just never seemed to be good enough, especially vs Miami. Went to MEECH as asst, then to WVU. =D>

Re Urban Meyer... He heads out west to Utah and coaches them to an unbeaten season with a #4 ranking in the final poll. Heads south to the SEC with the Gators and wins it all twice. Now he's back in the Midwest and he's got OSU in the mix for the national title. Has there ever been a college coach with that much success in that many programs, not to mention that many conferences covering such a wide geography?.....and he did it all in a decade.

Say what you will about the way he left, but this is some historic sh*t....
