How is BG doing in FB recruiting?

I've had problems following a lot of MAC teams recruiting this year?

I don't have a feel for who is doing well and who isn't.

Do you have a pinned list of verbals or anything in a central post?

P.S. I'm looking forward to the GMAC. Could be one of the most exciting of the bowl games.

P.S. I've been off this board since it converted

No, there's a bunch of threads on it. Our coaches say its going well, and some people support that, while some are nervous due to some decommits and the lack of news we normally have at this point. CMU has beaten us to a couple of guys.

I think we had one kid decommit as Antraz Burton changed his mind and went Chippewa on us.

It's hard to comment on recruiting in general as the coaches seem to keep a tight lid on the process. They indicated that they had 15 verbals as of a month or so ago and there were 14 kids on campus last weekend for cvisits.

Other than that, based on the names that have gotte out, we have some good commits in the fold. Fans on some of the other MAC boards seem to think we're doing well.

Luke Alexander WR 6-1 175 4.45 Springfield South HS (Springfield, OH)
Luke is one of those rare athletes that can combine speed and technique. This past season Luke pulled in 33 receptions for 394 yards and 4 touchdowns. Playing in the tough GWOC gives Luke the chance to compete against many other D-I caliber athletes each week. He has no problem in holding his own by using speed (4.45 @ OSU) to separate from defenders. Look for bigger numbers this season as South returns their young quarterback and many other top athletes. Luke is also a hard working student and carries a 2.89 core GPA and should have no problem with his test score from June 12th. Luke has already attended Ohio State Camp and from his performance Bowling Green wasted little time in making an offer while he attended their camp.

Kevin Leady *** QB 6-3 183 4.51 Eastwood I HS (Pemberville, OH)
Four-year varsity member, three-year varsity starter. Leady was named all-state in 2003 after passing for 1,962 and rushing for 1,445 yards. Kevin had a cominbed 41 passing and rushing touchdowns. Scouting Report - Polished quarterback that has a very strong arm and soft touch. Leady runs a legit 4.5 40-yard dash and he's not afraid to take off with the football if he doesn't find an open receiver down field.
“My favorites are Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Purdue, Toledo and Ohio State. “I’ve camped at Bowling Green this summer and our team just won the 7-on-7 tournament at Ohio State. We’re going to Cincinnati’s 7-on-7 tournament this summer also. “I wear #4 because of Brett Favre. He’s my favorite quarterback and I try and model my game after him.”
Leady passed for 1,962 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior and he used his 4.5 speed to rush for 1,445 yards and 26 touchdowns. Kevin was named 1st team All-Ohio in 2003. High School Sports Publication has named Leady to their Ohio “Tremendous 26” team. Kevin was named 1st team All-Ohio in 2003. High School Sports Publication has named Leady to their Ohio “Tremendous 26” team. Extra Point - Bowling Green has offered the perfect dual-threat quarterback for their system. Leady is underrated in my opinion. His speed is legit and he has a very strong arm. Leady is accurate and shows a nice touch. Don’t be surprised if the Big Ten schools offer scholarships during the 2004 season.

Guy Williamson ** OT 6-5 295 5.3 Mahomet-Seymour, (Mahomet, IL)
Will be a three-year varsity starter. Starts on both sides of the football for a team to two straight Class 5A play-off appearances. Projects as an offensive guard at the next level but had 32 solo tackles, 21 assisted tackles, four sacks and three tackles for loss as a defensive tackle in 2003. Coaches Comments -- "I'm a former assitant coach at the University of Evansville and the University of Illinois. Guy Williamson has the physical attributes to play college football. He combines several traits that I looked for as a college recruiter, tremendous size, quickness and agility. Combine those traits with a burning love of the game of football and I have just described Guy Williamson." Mahomet-Seymour coach Jerry Reeder.
Scouting Report -- Strong leges but needs to get stronger in the upper body. Simply overpowers kids on the high school level but will need to get stronger and better technique to play at the next level. Plays at full speed on every play and doesn't quit until the whistle is blow. I liked Guy more as an offensive guard, he's a very good run blocker. Could play guard or tackle in college.
"I just love the campus and the town. I just like the feeling I get from the school and the surrounding community, it's a nice sized school and campus but it's not overwhelming either. I just liked everything from the football program to the players and coaches to the campus and the facilities. In the end Bowling Green just felt like a place where I could fit in."
He had interest from Kentucky, Clemson, Florida Atlantic and Wyoming.

Rhett Magner * CB 6-1 170 4.5 Colony HS (Palmer, AK)
QB: Colony's Sr. Rhett Magner is in that group that is a cut above the best. All state as a junior.

Kevin Mahoney * OT 6-6 295 5.4 Springfield South HS (Springfield, OH)
Scout.com: The list of schools recruiting North’s Kevin Mahoney to play football was almost as tall as the 6-foot-7 senior lineman. Bowling Green State University won out in the end. Mahoney verbally committed to a full-ride football scholarship to play for the Falcons next fall. The national signing day is in February. “I just liked the coaches up there,” he said. “I went to a game there Saturday (a 51-13 win against Ball State) and the atmosphere up there is crazy. I loved it.” Bowling Green was just one of several schools vying for the 295-lineman. “Toledo and Ball State both offered scholarships,” Mahoney said. “Michigan State, West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, Ohio University, the University of Cincinnati, they were all calling. I was just surprised when I was getting five or six letters a day from colleges all over.” Mahoney plays both offensive and defensive line for the Panthers. He said the Falcons recruited him as an offensive tackle. He didn’t know if he would be red-shirted or get to contribute immediately as a freshman. “I’m guessing I’ll be red-shirting,” Mahoney said. “That’s what most offensive lineman do. It gives you a year to adjust and a year to get bigger.” Mahoney said the school’s criminal justice program was the winning ingredient. “That made my decision,” he said. After Saturday’s visit, Mahoney didn’t want to put the decision off any longer. “If you like the school there’s no point in waiting for it,” he said.

Shane Steffy * OT 6-3 290 5.3 Riverview HS (Oakmont, PA)
Rivals: Shane was a first team Class A All-Eastern Conference as a junior..

Michael Reame TE Bluffton HS (Bluffton, OH)
From the Advertiser Tribune: "Big play tight end Michael Ream was held to no receptions for no yards in the first half but in the second half, the tables were turned. Ream hauled in a 19-yard pass from quarterback Jarod Davies and just like that the momentum swung in favor of the Pirates. At the drop of a hat, he's ready again. "Ream is number four, and he's a pretty special kid," Mohawk coach Erik Baker said. "We'll see him at wideout, tight end and defensive end. He's getting a good look from Bowling Green. Actually it helps us when he's at tight end. It's when he's in the slot that we're worried. It's like having a dad playing in the backyard with a little kid. He'll just dominate. Or like in high school against Randy Moss. He's the best athlete on the field."

Freddie Barnes ** QB 6-1 180 4.6 Homewood-Flossmoor HS (Flossmoor, IL)
Scout.com: Illinois junior quarterback Freddie Barnes will be highly sought after in 2004. Several schools have already been in contact with this super dual-threat quarterback. Barnes, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback from Flossmoor (Ill.) Homewood-Flossmoor is one of the finest junior quarterback prospects in the Midwest. Barnes is a very good athlete that has a strong arm and he looks extremely poised in the pocket. There’s no doubt that he’ll be one of the most highly recruited prospects in 2004. “Freddie is a tremendous athlete,” said Homewood-Flossmoor Head Coach Tom Bailey.
“Freddie is starting to relax now and he’s making good decisions. Although he can burn a defense with his speed, he’s a quarterback that’s patient and he’s looking to throw the ball first.” Barnes has outstanding arm strength, he’s disciplined and he’s a playmaker. Which schools have been in contact with this super junior? “Right now I’m hearing from Illinois and Notre Dame, that’s about it.” Barnes said. “I’m getting a lot of letters but Illinois and Notre Dame have been sending the personal letters. “I like Illinois, Notre Dame and Iowa. I’m also looking at Nebraska pretty hard. Three other schools that I’d like to take a look at are Virginia Tech, Indiana and Air Force.” Barnes threw for 975 yards passing and seven touchdowns in 2002. He also had 535 yards rushing.

Nick Lawrence ** LB 6-2 215 4.7 Brighton HS (Brighton, MI)
Scout.com: Will be a three-year varsity starter in 2004. Was named honorable mention all-state as a junior after making 123 tackles from his linebacker position. 1st Team All-County, All Confernce and All-Region selection as a Junior. All-North selection by Detroit Free Press and Honorable Mention All-State. Rivals: Brighton, Mich., two-star linebacker Nick Lawrence was leaning toward Toledo a few weeks back, but that’s changed now. He’s heading to the MAC all right, but to conference powerhouse.

Phillip Pollard * OL 6-5 275 4.9 Westerville S HS (Westerville, OH)
Scout.com: Possibly the top OL in central Ohio this year. An Underrated prospect with a great frame and outstanding feet. 1st Team Ohio Capital Conference.

Cory Olaniyan WR 6-1 190 Bellvue HS (Bellvue, OH)
Scout.com:

Steven Zywotek DE 6-3 243 Avon Lake HS (Avon Lake, OH)
Scout.com:

Todd Newman ** TE 6-4 245 5.2 Bartlett HS (Bartlett, IL)
Scout.com: Will be a two-year varsity starter in 2004. Could play tight end, offensive line or defensive line at the next level.
Coaches Comments - "Todd is going to be a very good tight end. He loves to block, he gets out on linebackers and has super hips and change of direction. Very good hands. Also throws the shot (52-feet) in track." said Bartlett coach --Tom Meaney

This kid is NOT going to be playing football for Bowling Green. He has decided to play baseball only. Whether that is at BG or not, I'm not sure, but I can say with pretty good conviction he will not be playing football at BG.

Okay, but what day is the Michigan game next year?

Leady will be playing baseball which is probably his best bet. And I doubt that he ever ran a 4.5 40. Those times are all so phony/exaggerated. ---- A 4.5 would put him in the class-sprinter catagory, and he ain't no class sprinter. You can't really extrapolate -- i.e., predict what his 100 yard time would be because at 40 yards he's still accelerating. I can assure you, however, that not many high-sprinters (kids running on a track team let alone a baseball team) can crack a 4.5 40. Leady is no exception.

I read an article about 40 times online a year or so ago. When Ben Johnson broke the 100 meter world record (he was juiced to the gills on steroids) that I think still stands, he broke the 40 meter mark at roughly 4.3. That would put these kids running sub 4.5's a step to a step and a half behind THE elite sprinter when he's been engineered just slightly less than Frankenstien

I'm fine...you appear to have a problem...an addiction to cute little emoticons. Sure they look funny and often elicit giggles from people who never imagined that the same computer they use to track football scores and cake recipes could be used for such mirth, but they are far from harmless.

Emoticons are dangerous....
