Looks like Hoeppner's 20 years in the Red and White will continue, just at a new school. Needless to say Im not happy.

I stated this in another thread that I'm totally shocked by this. I thought Hoeppner was going to be a lifer. He's a good man and a decent coach. Best if luck to him and the Redskins faithful.

How long was Hoeppner head coach at Miami? How old is he?

This makes a lot of sense for Hoeppner. He went to Franklin College, IN (30 Mi to Bloomington) before turning pro back in the 70's. What a test for a good coach.

Hoeppner is a fine coach...I think he's been at Miami for around 7-8 years as head coach? Wasn't he an assistant there for a while before getting the head gig? Best of luck to him

I wouldn't be happy, either. I know it's the Big 10 ... Big 11 .. whatever ... and, yes, I know Walker has had some success at N'western. But I just can't shake the feeling that Hoeppner, well ...

You're trying to drive Flipper into a canvass sweater, aren't you?

To answer my own questions, Hoeppner was head coach at Miami for 6 seasons and spent the last 19 seasons in Oxford. He is 57 years old.

FWIW, he seems a little old to be interesting to Indiana. Thought they would want a younger guy. From Hoeppner's point of view, he is probably starting to think about retirement and wants to grab all the cash he can. Can't blame him for that.

Grab the cash while he can, and also, even if he goes 3 and out at IU, that puts him at 60ish with a pile of cash at his feet. Going to Indiana and failing doesn't hurt him as much as it would hurt someone even just 10 years younger than him that may need to land another job.

But I think Hoeppner's a good enough coach, and Indiana has shown *some* life, that bowl games on a semi-regular basis aren't out of the question.

Exactly. At 57, he can't necessarily wait for a better opportunity. What if you were thinking, hey, I'm going to retire in 3 years anyway. If so, why not pick up some $$ for your last three years. If you win, you win. If not, you walk away. And, it might be a dream to coach in the Big 10.

I'm sure Miami fans are disappointed....also effects the bowl game. I thought he was a classy guy, and a good representative of your university and the MAC Conference ( :D ). It would be a great success story if he turned Indiana around.

Thanks for the nice comments. Agree with you completely and YES, (I think I can speak for most Miami fans) we are very disappointed but we wish him well.
