Created of course by the great MarkL, this contest is a running AZZ tradition in which the poster who picks the most games correctly during the season wins a prize and bragging rights. With quite a few games happening on Thursday this week, you'll want to get your choices in quickly for this 1st week.

So I don't think I have the time to do this again this year, do the administrative job of this .... but I'm always happy to play. Just too damn busy with life and stuff. So without further ado, my picks ...

UCF. UCF seems like among the top few non BCS teams this year, and Akron would be middle of the road FCS. Bowden will get the ship turned around eventually though.
EMU. Tough picking this one because it's BSU's very good offense vs EMU's very good defense. I'll take the defense. EMU is my MAC West sleeper.
CMU. It's SEMO state.
Kent. Towson is a pretty darn good FCS team but Kent starts out the season right.
UConn. Will be fun to see UMass as a MAC member. Curious how Pagel does.
Georgia. UB disappoints this year IMO.
That place in Columbus. That team down south is on the rise but Meyer starts out his career with a good win.
Penn State. OU gives PSU hell. PSU, though thin and not nearly as talented as many other B1G teams, puts together a surprisingly good year by never giving up all year long.
WMU. Timmy starts out with a thud and WMU starts up a good season with an awesome upset.
Iowa. NIU plays them very well but Iowa's lines wear down NIU's new starters.
Bowling Green. Shocker of the week for all of FBS! BG controls the clock, forces some turnovers, stops the Florida O, and wins on a late touchdown drive!!
Arizona. That team up north plays well for three quarters but Arizona, with the new coach, new offense, and new defense, clicks late in the game and pulls away.

CAN'T WAIT FOR KICKOFF! Not gonna lie, I've been pretty useless at work this week ...

UCF at Akron - Long year for Akron, but the future will be bright.
E. Michigan at Ball St. - Not a fan of conference games in week one. Taking BSU at home.
SE Missouri St. at Central Michigan - Blow out.
Towson at Kent State - Kent by a couple touchdowns.
UMass at Connecticut - Interested in watching Pagel. Hope he does well, but its gonna be a long year for them.
Buffalo at Georgia - Will be within two touchdowns, but is just too much for them.
Miami (Ohio) at Ohio St. - Part of me wants to pick Miami, but Urban will have them ready for his first game.
Ohio at Penn St. - Long year at Penn State and OU is one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the MAC.
Western Michigan at Illinois - Gut call here.
Iowa at Northern Illinois - Another one that will be fairly close.
Bowling Green at Florida - I really want to pick BG, and I think the game will be a nail biter. But they just have too much size for us. Biggest key this weekend: not turning the ball over. If we keep the turnovers at 2 or under, we've got a great shot.
Toledo at Arizona - Its early so I'm going out on a limb here, but I like Toledo this year (did I just type that?). They lost some key guys, but Owens and Dantin is a good combo, and Arizona always disappoints. Another upset.

As much as we want to see Kevin Pagel do well, he is out indefinitely with an undisclosed injury. One report I read said Pagel has been sidelined indefinitely with post-concussion symptoms. The report is here: http://www.masslive.com/umassfootball/i ... _in_1.html

This is a tough break for him as he is a really good kid.

Not to nit pick this early in the year, but it's KELLEN Pagel, not Kevin.

I'll play this year too...hopefully I can keep up every week.
