From this point on for the rest of the season, BG is not allowed to attempt a FG of any distance. Just go for it no matter where the game is played at or the position on the field.

The last time we had an acceptable kicker was when Suisham played here.

And he got dogged pretty hard on this board when he was here too.
Stein completely choked yesterday. Still, last year when the coaches had written off all the returning kickers ("we have 4 kickers on the roster that will never kick for us") Stein was the one to step up and have a respectable season. 24/25 and 8/11 sounds pretty good to me. For comparison, Suisham was 14-20 on fg his senior year. Vrvilo was 9-16.
I don't know what happened with him yesterday. Missing from that close in twice at key moments in the game is unacceptable. 1 more game like that and I think Tate should get his shot, but I'm not ready to write him off just yet. I'd like to see how he recovers first. I think last year earned him that much anyway.

I only saw a few practices, but I thought from those, that Tate would be our FG kicker, and he probably is from anything farther out that 30yds. He maybe be it for all FG now.

Clawson royally screwed up on the first one though, he should have used that final time out to center the ball.

See, I would have taken a shot at a TD rather than that last 5 yard out route. Between a 31 and a 36 yard FG, it shouldn't have mattered. But, we could have been in the endzone and tied at half. But, I also don't get paid to coach, so there was probably a reason for just pushing it closer as he did.

Stein makes those kicks and nobody is complaining about these decisions.

Tough to say. I'm ok with a field goal, points there would have been huge taking some momentum into the half. Throw one to the endzone and it gets picked or a sack and fumble would have been a killer.

Like you said, make the kick and no one is complaining or 2nd guessing. It's a 24 yarder for a D1 kicker. You HAVE to make it.

ESPN has Clawson quoted as follows:

"We've struggled with field goals for three years," said Falcons coach Dave Clawson, who planned to switch kickers if his team got another shot. "You miss two short ones like that, we're going to give the other kid a shot. You've got to come out of those drives with points. We had a chance to be down just four points at the half. That was big."

Clearly kicking has been an issue for YEARS. I would fully support giving somebody else a shot against Idaho, unless our other options are actually WORSE than what was displayed down in Florida.

Over the last three season (counting the current one), BG is just 14-28 (50%) on field goal attempts. Not good....

Clawson also said in the post game that Tyler Tate was going to get the next FG attempt. They mentioned on radio that he had been warming up. Apparently he and Stein were rated even though summer camp....
