From the Idaho game...
1. Nice job by the wide receivers. Gallon is a stud and only a freshman. Nice rebound by Joplin...just needs to play that way against the Floridas of the world and not just the Idahos. Stokes was solid and Burbrink was as well...although I think Heath jackson will give us more yards after catch at that position when healthy.
2. Nice rotation at running back. Pettigrew and Martin are a nice compliment to Samuel.
3. Field Goal kicking still worries me. Tate's extra points didn't instill any confidence in me. He almost missed one and didn't get much height on them. We'll see once he tries a FG.
4. Defense is solid at times with a "bend but don't break attitude." But what the Toledo QB might do to our secondary scares me. We'll have to score a lot more than 21 points to win.
5. I was frustrated with how we ran the ball early in the Idaho game. That was a strange formation with two tight ends in the back field along with the running back. Thought we had the ability to line up with a full back and run it right at them. We seemed not to want to do that early in the game. We passed at least 70% of the time and when we did run we lined up in some gimmick package and ran out of that. I though in the fourth quarter we got back to a more traditional running game...and it worked.
6. I thought the play calling was a little heavy on the pass yesterday. Maybe coaches saw something on tape? Maybe they didn't want to show too much of the ground game? We'll see but we'll need a more balanced as we get into MAC play.
