".......for the design and construction of a new stadium"

Post by Tech83 »

This RFQ was just posted at the State of Ohio's Website.

Doyt Perry Stadium Study

Part of the study includes:

"Conceptual Program for New Stadium:
The selected firm or team will prepare a conceptual program for the design and construction of a new stadium. This conceptual program will take into account the latest trends in stadium construction for major intercollegiate football (using recently constructed facilities such as University of Central Florida, Stanford, University of Akron, etc.) as well as agreed-upon options for stadium size and amenities."(Emphasis mine)

Also.....

"The architect will be required to attend several meetings with representatives of the BGSU Campus Operations Department, the Office of Design & Construction, the Office of Capital Planning, the Athletics Department and other interested parties during the phases of information gathering and analysis." (Emphasis mine)

This means if there is a public forum - say through the Falcon Club or Alumni Association - you NEED to go and express your opinion. Speaking as an Architect who has conducted these types of forums..... we really are looking for people to express their opinion and it gives us the fuel to push clients in the right direction. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get the public involved in public projects.

Feel free to talk amongst yourself.

In the recent Ask the AD, GC said the most likely path is to renovate, but building new would be explored as an option. I say this is not news

With the construction of the Sebo Center, I just can't see building new versus renovating each side over two years and maybe closing off the south end.

Renovate / rebuild. It's still news they are planning on improving what we have now.

I mean by no news no need to freak out over building a new stadium / knocking down the Doyt. We already knew renovations were in the future.

GC has mentioned that with the Stroh being done, football was the next super huge project....hopefully, we'll see something concrete (literally) before 2025

The News is this in on the streets and moving forward.

The RFQ states the east stands are in decay. Don't be surprised if "New" means razing one side at a time to construct a new stadium. Some might consider that a renovation, others will call it a new stadium.

My real point is....... if they have a public forum..... this isn't the place to express your opinion..... you NEED to attend the forums and have your voice heard. I've held forums to create new city parks and have had 10 people show up. Guess what..... we read the surveys and we listen to people in public forums.

I really hope if we use those three schools as models that we go the Akron or Stanford route and not the Central Florida route. I have been to all three of them (97 of the FBS stadiums in total) and just saw UCF's a month ago before heading to Gainesville. I was very unimpressed. I liked the press tower, but the facility itself is a very bland, boring bowl and the entire structure is basically aluminum. I really liked what Akron did a lot and while I know Stanford built a stadium much larger than what we'll need or have, I really like the way both Akron and Stanford used the double decks for great seating along the sidelines. This type of seating allows much better viewpoints rather than seating like we have now that sort of drifts back and not up like we have at the Doyt. I like that we have actual grandstands on both sides and not a crappy chunk of seats on the one side like Kent State has, but our grandstands have a very gradual slope. Stand in the south grass area and look at our stands and you will see what I am referring to. I really hope if those are the models that we go with Akron and not UCF.

InfoCision is an awesome stadium to catch a game, if BG decides in any way to mirror a new or renovated stadium after that, it would be a definite plus. Glad to see this finally has some legs to it, the Doyt is in dire need of some TLC, I hope they renovate and keep the current outline (I'm sure they will since the Sebo Center is there), since the Doyt has the best sightlines in the MAC by far.

I think we should copy the Glass Bowl exactly, because we all know it is the best stadium in the MAC! ;)

Having those light poles in front of you on the visitor's side is awesome!

And let's remember the razor wire and chicken wire on the visitors side entrance as well.

The concession stands are a thing of beauty too, as well as their merchandise area!
