OK, I'm probably going to beat a dead horse....again....but can anyone explain why, on one of the most beautiful and pleasand days of the year, much less HOMECOMING, that we draw LESS than 16K? And I don't care to hear that the mighty Columbus Tech was playing at the same time: When we arrived to tailgate, I was encouraged by how many people were in the lots...did they not go to the game?
I guess I'm too old fashioned about this stuff; once the excuse is "weather is bad" (NOT yesterday), Too many activities (then WHY did people come to games in the late 90's, early 00"s?) . Oh, then they didn't have anything else to do, right, so they came to games?

Sorry for the "venting", but the lack of support for my alma mater disturbs me...especially this weekend.

A lot of people were still in the lots during the game hanging out and drinking. Its nothing new.

1-3, coming off a 37-0 loss, playing an 0-3 Rhode Island team, Rhode Island brought about 15 fans.

15-16k is about what I expected. Even with it being homecoming 1-3 against Rhode Island isn't going to bring many townies out and a lot of people were still out there tailgating (which I don't get).

I think you'll see around 20k if we can win @ Akron. Attendance hasn't been great this year but the schedule kind of set up for it. A bad Idaho team brought probably less than 100 people, Rhody brought about 15-20 fans. Miami will bring 500 or more. Big crowds almost always need a good size visiting contingent.

If BG can run off 3 straight and get to 5-3 there should be an excellent crowd for Eastern.

Who cares? I was there. I don't give a crap if any one else came. I enjoyed the game with my family. If no one else comes, there loss, not mine.

Beautiful. I've gotten to the point where I don't care what others do anymore. The boys and I had a GREAT time at the game, tailgating, the sunshine and a BiG win. If someone would rather stay home, indoors watching Cbus A & M, so be it.

Falcon 137 makes an excellent point...Idaho didn't travel well at all but that's a hell of a trip. How many BG fans made the trip to ID last year? RI isn't just down the road, either. The Miami game should have close to 20K....they will bring, IMO, a couple thousand since it's a two hour drive from Oxford. BG needs to enjoy the RI win and get ready to take down Akron.

I can tell you there were a number of "old"falcon football players in town for homecoming but did NOT go to the game and said they wouldn't go to a game until there is a change at the top of the department! Some from as far away as California.

Students! I love our students. They were there- again. A few less than Idaho but a super turnout.

I agree- our football games are for two groups as far as I am concerned. Our students (and for certain games their families) and TRUE Falcon fans of all types who can make the five minute/two hour/four hour/whatever it is for you drive to the Doyt. If you care about BG football- and you can care and criticize (even vehemently), you can care and only make three games, you can care and just go to the game in Columbus if that is your circumstance, you can care if one season you can't make many and another season you can make all, you can care and be a 20 year season ticket holder, you can care and decide to just go to the night games- you get to the ones you can and have a blast on the visit.

But TRUE Falcon fans get to the games they can make, goes in the stadium, watches, cheers and celebrates or is disappointed. So BGorDeath and I of the same mind on this one.

As far as "California" visitors enjoying the tailgate and vowing never to enter the gates until changes occur- really? Is that support? Is that being a Falcon? And would they have added a couple thousand to our attendance? No- they would have filled one row. A very short row. I respect opinions- all are entitled- but how does that help this football team? And I sure talked to a number of "old" Falcon ball players who actually did enjoy a good seat for the game.

Go when you can and bring someone with you. It is good entertainment value- especially if you have orange/brown in your closet and are a true Falcon.

I want to us to keep being creative/get creative in all marketing, partnerships etc. I want our schedule, when possible, to include some good FBS teams and some good start times. Sure. But, personally, I am concerned about our students and the true Falcons who don't need a whole lot of marketing- you just go because you are a Falcon.

I never have a problem finding folks that are willing to make the 1.5 hour drive with me, but I'm always just a little bit embarassed about sitting them in the bleachairs...just sayin. Maybe for another thread.

Some of the most entertaining football in the country 1.5 hours up the road for about 15 bucks? I'm always down for that. And I'm not even in college yet haha. GO FALCONS!!!

What's bothering me most right now about attendance is the fact that we've had perfect weather for the first two games, and yet we've only gotten 15k fans for both games. I can't wait to see what happens when the weather gets bad, particularly if BG runs off 2-3-4 wins in a row here against the likes of Akron/Miami/Umass. If its crappy weather for say, EMU, then we'll have a nice case study how important the weather really is in the big scheme of things.

So the former players are staying away because they're feelings are still hurt over Sharp's firing...is that it? So the program and the school are less important than one guy? A guy who lost his job over his own mistake?

I had no problem bringing two friends of Jake's...his one friend, TJ, wants to go to every BG game now. I took him to the tsun and it was his first BG game. I am bringing my bud, Doug, to the Akron game and probably another car full of kids. Sure it's only a ten min drive this week but I love that. Infocision Stadium is pretty sweet...

Attendance is what it is. The fringe fan isn't going to come out and see Idaho or Rhode Island even if it was 70 sunny and 0% humidity. The students have been great the first 2 weeks and the core fans have shown up. Idaho was 17k+ and Rhody was 15k. About what I expected given both teams brought next to no fans.

If BG can win @ Akron you will see the same 10k or so core fans there along with 3-5k students, plus Miami will bring 500-1000 people and if the weather is good you'll see more people, so your attendance will hover around the 20,000 mark. 3-3 (1-1) BG vs 3-3 (2-0) Miami is a lot more enticing for the casual fan than the first 2 games have been.

And if BG can run off wins vs Akron, Miami, and UMass you should see a good crowd against EMU.

I can't think of any horrific weather games in recent memory. The mud bowl vs Miami, but that was a weeknight with a pair of bad teams. There hasn't been horrific weather coinciding with a really big game in a while. 2008 vs. Buffalo was the most recent, before that, Miami in the MAC title game in '03, Toledo in '04 and '05. Buffalo was a big game in '08 it was cold and snowy but, I think a lot of the crowd on that night had more to do with the game starting at 6 on a weeknight.
