Ohio moves into the Top 25

Has the MAC ever had a school in the Top-25 in basketball and football at the same time like this before (end of year in basketball, current for football)? I can't remember it happening since I started following the conference. I mean what a stretch they've had down in Athens: they win a bowl game last year in football, they win the MAC Tournament and advance to the Sweet 16 to finish in the Top-25 in basketball, and now are undefeated and ranked in the Top-25 in football too! Very impressive. OU has also won 3 of the last 8 MAC Championships in basketball while also playing in the MAC Championship in football in 3 of the last 6 games. It's incredible the success they are having in both of these sports right now. Clearly they have set the model for the rest of the conference to attempt to follow. When a team in the MAC has excelled in either football or basketball, it seems the other has fallen short. But OU has proven you can do both right here in the MAC. Very impressive.

Just goes to show ya what a ridiculously easy schedule can do for a team.

Yeah but you still got to win the games. The PSU win is looking better and better.

Good to see a MAC team undefeated and ranked again, and OU has always been my second favorite MAC school.

Screw OU. The only MAC team I want in the top 25 is BG.

In that case you'll be really depressed to know that Northern Illinois and Toledo are both picking up votes in the coaches' poll as well. Both of those teams could easily be undefeated right now along with OU, NIU lost by a point on a last minute drive by Iowa and Toledo was defeated in overtime by Arizona.

Kent State is also 5-1. Past them, its clear that Ball State and Bowling Green haven't been slouches either, both teams are 4-3. When was the last time the MAC finished a season with 6 teams or more over .500. That could easily happen this year.

Plus the MAC had a great showing in bowl games last year. Honestly I think this is as close as this conference has ever been to the Big Ten. That says more about how far the Big Ten has fallen than the rise of the MAC but still. Contrary to what some people on here have said in the past year about this conference being in the dumpster, I think it is starting to look good again.

BG moved into the Top 25 in 2002 after an 8-0 start that included routs of Missouri and Kansas. Ohio has not had a overly challenging schedule but good for them. I hope they are still undefeated on Nov 7. :) The MAC is a pretty solid conference. toledo has won 6 in a row and lost in OT to Arizona..that looks good. I am surprised NIU has done so well considering they had to replace 4 of 5 OL and Harnish from last year. Give the Huskies credit for building a SOLID program year in and year out. Kent State...flying under the radar. Like OH, they haven't played the most challenging schedule but they're a solid team. WMU continues to underachieve and disappoint. I think Cubit will be done this year if they don't rally.

I also agree with your view the MAC, as a whole, is much better than some previous posts. It seems pretty quiet on that front. ;0)

More fun being had down in Athens. 5 people including a football player beat a kid for sitting on a bench.

They're ranked because college football this year is pretty average. They're really not a dominant team, they've won close games against lesser talent. They're ripe to be beaten.

I think Ohio loses 2 games before the regular season is over. Still a great season.

Hopefully we are one of those losses BTW.

Looking at our schedule, it sets up nicely getting a bye before we take on Ohio. That could be huge when it comes to getting guys healthy and setting a gameplan.

Not only do we have 10 days between the Eastern Michigan game (Oct. 27) and the Ohio game (Nov. 7); but also working in our favor is the fact that Ohio hosts Eastern on Nov. 1 so they have less than a week to prepare/get well for the match up.
