EMU quick notes

Clawson had a lot of positives to say about EMU. Quick notes ...
... they made a QB switch. The guy has thrown for 670 yards and 7 TDs the last two weeks.
... their TB, Bronson Hill, was not even on the depth chart in spring but has rushed for around 460 the last two weeks for around 8 yards a carry. One missed tackle and he's gone, yet he weighs above 200 and can run over folks.
... he believes their defense is far better than the stats and suffered from being on the field too much. I think that is only partially true. If you watched the Ball State game and other games against good passing offenses you will see a ton of space between the DBs and the WRs.

After the disaster four years ago, I know to never write off EMU. They always, always play us close. Of all the MAC teams we beat in 2004, they put together one of the best games against us. We needed some fourth quarter defensive heroics to win in 2006. 2007 came down to the wire. 2008 ... didn't happen.

My take ... shut down Bronson Hill and you shut down the offense. Control the line of scrimmage on offense and get that run game going and their defense will get really tired and beat down really fast. Think Akron.

Go Falcons!!

Any team with momentum can be dangerous. I hope our coaches have pounded our players all week into understanding they had better not look at the record and chalk this one up to a guaranteed cakewalk win. Certainly, this is a game we are very capable of winning, but we'll need to earn it on the field to do so. If we come out and dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball for 4 quarters, as well as limit turnovers and penalties, we'll be ok. I hope this team (more specifically, the offense) doesn't think they can take a half off and still come away with a win, as they did with Akron and Mass. We got away with it on those occasions, but I don't expect that to keep happening.
Come out with the attitude to dominate the opponent from play #1 til the clock shows 0:00.

Another quick note. EMU's running backs coach? Michigan great Mike Hart. If you've ever seen that guy play then you know there has never in the history of college football been a player with a more appropriate last name. He will be a future outstanding coach.
