Defense Usually Wins Championships, Right?

Feels a little different going into a big game as the team with the dominant defense. As long a I can remember, BG has always gone into these type of games with the high powered offense. Now, its Kent State that comes in with the offense making all the news.
The old adage is that "defense wins championships"...so I hope that holds true here. Kent has given us fits over the past few years...even when they had terrible teams. Archer and Durham are a nice 1-2 punch at running back with a speed and power mix.
I think the game may come down to Keith and Schilz having the ability to get their team in the end zone...or at least moving the chains and keeping the other offense off the field.
Also Buffalo won't be a push over either the last week.

I think the team will be up for the challenge this week. Plain and simple, the BG defense can't play on their heels against Durham/Archer, or else they'll run wild. Take them out of the game as much as possible and force Kent to throw the ball. I like the matchups we have against their offense though, especially our LBs who are quick.

BG's offense has to make the most of their scoring chances in this game. And that means touchdowns. When you're facing a high powered attack like this, you need to score touchdowns and not hope to get 3 points.
If the defense can play as well as it has for the past six weeks and contain Kent's running attack, this game will come down to BG's ability to pass. You know that Kent is going to stack the line and make BG beat them through the air. I think BG will be forced to play Kent a bit more honestly because their QB is more mobile.
So between BG's passing game and the special teams, this game gets decided (assuming no big mistakes by either side).

If the BG D can force 2nd & 3rd and long, we'll be in good shape. Force Keith to beat us thru the air. If Kent can rip off BiG gains on 1st down, we could be in trouble.

I know not everyone likes Michael Reghi, but he will be calling the game on Saturday. I like him...it's obvious he really enjoys doing MAC Football and hoops and he has a good knowledge of the league. That's enough for me. The game is on ESPN's regional package, meaning if you have GamePlan you're set, and/or if your internet provider has ESPN3.com, you're set with that too. I was pumped to find out that the game will actually be on TV where I am, and I'm far away so I hope that means plenty of other fans will be able to easily tune in from afar as well.
Really exciting to be playing big games in November again. The Toledo loss(es) fester, but it seems like so long ago now. After the poor showings vs. Toledo and Virginia Tech, I was pretty discouraged about everything...definitely didn't see this winning streak coming. But Coach Clawson has done a great job building the program up and keeping these guys focused after the scuffling start. I'm glad I was wrong. It just re-iterates that it's a long season, we've obviously improved dramatically since September. Whatever happens the next two weeks it's been a good season, hopefully the win vs. OU locked up a bowl game for us no matter what.
I haven't seen the team play in person yet this year...making the drive to Columbus after the holiday. Very excited about seeing them and where the program is going, even more so if we pull it out on Saturday.
