Per JW's blog: First is a bit of bad news regarding junior safety BooBoo Gates, who was injured in the Ohio game. Coach Dave Clawson said Gates tried to practice on Wednesday but was "limited." By the time I reached practice, Gates was on the sidelines. Clawson said Gates would be a "game-time decision" for the Kent State game.
I went back and watched the play he got hurt on, it looked like it was on Ohio's first TD score. I thought maybe it was the play he got drilled by Blankenship when they collided inside the 5, but it actually looked like it was on the TD by Tettleton. It looked like he tweaked it on the play, may have gotten twisted up with another player, just moving from right to left. It didn't look bad at all on tape, he sort of bounced on it after taking a step, but obviously it did something to him. I really hope he can go Saturday. I was just thinking how we're going to need him.

We need Gates in there but give mad props to Josh Pettus for stepping in for Boo Boo when he went down. Pettus finished with eleven tackles in the OU game.

Gates is all but out this week, Pettus will be starting. Bryan Thomas is also back on the DL which should help some of the depth issues there.

Pettus is fantastic. I feel quite confident we'll be fine in that position with Pettus in place of BooBoo. Unlike previous years, we have depth. Losing one guy in the secondary, even the secondary's best player and a team leader, should not derail this defense.
And all the best to BooBoo. I hope he's back ASAP. if he is deemed questionable but unlikely for tomorrow, I bet he's back for UB.

I don't think it would have mattered much. Pettus played very well and ended up with a fumble recovery. Like coach said, the fact that Archer got so many runs without being touched at the line of scrimmage spelled the doom. Not even Boo Boo was gonna stop him once he got going.Falcon137 wrote:We really missed BooBoo this week.
