Clawson on the list at any of these schools?
So many jobs opening up and it's still early. Clawson had done a nice job at bg and I'm sure his name will surface for some jobs. My thoughts are that purdue, Boston college and even nc state would have clawson on a list of candidates. He has not set the world on fire but has solid head coaching experience and is well respected. Unfortunately the Mac is like a farm system for coaches and the good ones usually don't last long. I think next year they win the east and he has his pick of jobs but don't be surprised to see his name surface in the coming weeks
Re: Clawson on the list at any of these schools?
I think he hangs on for a year. With the players coming back and an easier schedule it seems he could land a bigger job with back to back good years and a potentially great year, next year.
BC may intrigue him, he's an east coast guy. I don't think he's viewed favorably by many SEC people after his flop at Tennessee as OC.
This is a guy who was on the hot seat before the season and halfway through the season. I don't know how many BCS schools could sell 2 winning seasons in the past 5 years to their fan base.
I think Purdue will go after Doeren and or Hazell. Lots of quality coordinators will get looks at jobs too.
If Clawson leaves, there's a guy who will probably be leaving Illinois with BG ties.....

Could see BC because of the him being a east coast guy, but thats about it for this season unless something else in the northeast were to open up. Think he name would be out there more if we had beaten Kent. Put together another winning season with (hopefully) a conference championship and I could see his name on more lists after the 2013 season

In the coaching world right now, it is win now, don't wait for next year. Slow rebuilds are not acceptable, even if that is the way you rebuild a program. For that reason, I think and hope Clawson is going to be here for a while. He is a fantastic program builder as we've seen in three different stops as head coaches, but athletic directors have to be patient enough to allow the program to develop to succeed in the long run. Most BCS athletic directors are under pressure to not have this kind of patience.

I do think it's possible we lose Elko to someone looking for a d coordinator. I wonder if anyone on the current staff would be capable of taking over our program if Clawson left.

Quick thoughts on the Purdue opening before anyone freaks out ...
GC is from Purdue. The athletic director there knows him very well.
Any non BCS coach who wins 8 or more games in not his first year is immediately a candidate at just about any position at a BCS school.
Even before Hope was fired it has looked like Doren is ready fit for Purdue, if he wants the job.
And I sure hope Larry McDaniel, DL coach, is happy here, because I bet any new coach would be happy to have him on a new coaching staff.

Clawson has done a fairly decent job at BG. Started off this season with a nice showing at Fla. Then beat all of teams he was expected to beat. Middle of the schedule was soft and not getting on the board at VT was a disappointment to be sure. Toledo loss had to sting - especially being beaten by a 32 yo rookie.
Coach Clawson, I would think, would love to move on if the right job opens. Not so sure he will coach with his heart totally in it from this point on. Mainly due to the fact most guys want to be in the MAC 3 or 4 years and then take off like rockets for big paydays and a chance at a BCS game.

I don't view two years as a slow rebuild. We sucked in 2010, got within a couple of plays of being bowl eligible in 2011 and in 2012 the only thing standing between us and a shot at our conference title was Kent's ability to pull Atom Ant out of thier ass and turn him loose on us..
To someone from a middling to poor "BCS" program that scenario would be nirvana...

I said this on another thread......If you can find that coach who's already made their money and mark in his career but still loves coaching, then you found a magic formula for BG.
Another scenario is what I hope Clawson is......he was OC at Tennessee and he and his family had a very bad experience (from what I read). Why not settle down in a nice community and do what you love and let your family have stability.

Give him an extension and raise. Guy deserves it, rebuilt the program from the ground up and has us pointed in the right direction.
Also need to up his buyout, with another good year the big boys will come knocking.

Yeah...I know...I can count. First year was a holding pattern. Second year complete teardown, third year some improvement and we're rolling in year four. He spent two years on a complete rebuild...argue the short recruiting season from year one as part of the rebuild and it's still three years. How long have some of the schools looking for coaches been non factors? For many of them it's been longer than 2-3 years.Globetrotter wrote:This was his fourth yearFlipper wrote:I don't view two years as a slow rebuild. I like to see coaches have at least 4-5 recruiting years so their recruits can be a big part of their program.
