Two thoughts ...
1. I doubt Jones is dumb enough to take the Purdue job. Smart coach, seems dedicated to the university and seems happy with his kids living there. Hope I'm not too naive.
2. I doubt Clawson would take an open Cincy job if offered. He knows what kind of team is coming together next year. He knows 2013 could be a gigantic season. If he's there to coach them through to completion and if he really wants to get a big job, a Big Ten or something to that effect could show up.
And finally ... I hope Clawson is here for the long run. Really, really hope. He's a great coach and I couldn't be happier with him as the BGSU head coach.

Clawson would leave BG for Cincinnati as fast as he could sign. Come on. This is 2012.

I hope Jones doesn't leave 2 days before the regular season finale, in a game BG needs UC to win.
Not sure Clawson really fits here. He is a builder. He hasn't exactly proven he can win big at the FBS level, yet. UC's program is in good shape, I would think they would go after someone who has proven they can win bowl games and conference titles. *Cough* Doeren *cough*

I don't think Clawson is a bad coach. I do think the discussion about him going elsewhere is a bit premature. He doesn't even have a winning record here. I have been persuaded by some here about him being pretty good, and the defensive results are evident. If I am a bigger school he would not interest me. 8-4 at a small school just isn't good enough for your best season.

With the demise of the Big East football, I really don't know where Cincinnati stands as a place where coaches would want to move up to. As for their current coach, I would certainly be looking to move on to Purdue if given the chance.

FWIW...Beckman went 8-5 and 8-4 at Twerpledo before getting the Illinois gig....of course they offered the gig to about a dozen guys before calling him, so that may bot be the best comparison.

Cincinnati will still be able to pay a ton more and has more resources. Don't we pay about the least in college football?

UC might be able to pay more then a MAC school, but compared to other schools in BCS conferences they haven't one of the smallest budgets out there
“I think we’ve got great coaches but our budget is one of the lowest ones at the BCS level and we have a good bit of debt from Varsity Village,” Babcock said. “So I think we’re challenged a lot from a budget standpoint.

Clawson was when he first arrived. He makes something like 315k+ now, which still isn't a ton. But, he makes more than Hazell for example.
I also think Clawson has one of the highest bonus numbers in the league.

Meyer lost three of his last four here at BG and got hired elsewhere.
Meyer never went to a bowl game while coaching at BG and got hired elsewhere.
Meyer never won a MAC Division title or Championship title while at BG and got hired elsewhere.
It can happen.

Ron Cooper got hired by Louisville in the mid 90's with a losing record at EMU...and it's not ike he went 1-11 and then 8-3...he had losing records both years...

I don't know if Clawson is a good fit at UC--he's close to being typecast as a turn around guy--but he would jump at the job. I think it is a little premature...but I would not be shocked if he wasn't back. The man can clearly coach.

Meyer went 17-6. I think Clawson needs another season of 8-4 or better to land a BCS job.
